Principal Words
Dear Parents,

I hope you all had an enjoyable half-term break and managed to have some family time together.  Today we are trialling a new newsletter and we hope that the new and improved format is more attractive and easier to follow.

"Sowers Charity Walk"
As mentioned in our last newsletter, 9 staff (including me!) are taking part in a 10km charity walk on Sunday 6th November to raise money for the Sowers Charity (website: www.challenging12hours.org/en_competition.html#c ) . Thank you so much for the kind donations we have received so far.  We have raised $11,260. You can still send your donation to BHS if you would like to support us. Miss Chung and Miss King have been busily climbing mountains on the weekend practice to get in.

A New Arrival.....
Congratulations to Mrs Helen Pickering and her husband Dan on the arrival of their new baby boy Rhys James Pickering born on 11th October weighing in at a healthy 8lbs.

Diwali
Wishing all of our Indian families who celebrate Diwali a happy family time together.  At BHS we celebrate, acknowledge and learn about many different cultures, traditions and religions.  It is part of our mission statement to respect and value everyone and also to understand our responsibility as global citizens.

Art

The Nutcracker Design Project : Dreams and Inspiration

The Hong Kong Ballet is inviting students to submit an orginal piece of artwork based upon the interpretation of the Nutcracker: "Dreams and Inspiration".  Winning entries will receive complimentary tickets to the opening night of The Nutcracker and have his/her work showcased on the Hong Kong Ballet website. Other top entries will also have a chance to be viewed through the website, Facebook and at an exclusive exhibition.  Submission deadline is 31st October, please see attached on where and how to submit artwork and conditions of entry.

A talented young artist

Well done to Megan Man (5W) for her winning entries in 2 art competitions recently. The first is a water colour and pencil, Titled: Loving Nature, which she won first prize for in Hong Kong.

The second is a lovely water colour, marker and pencil work, showing how China and Hong Kong are connected. For this, she won the China Gold award.

MAD Club Activities

Children's Heart Foundation

Thank you to those members of the MAD Club who took part in a charity fundraising walk around the Peak during the half term holiday. They were joined by their parents, Mr and Mrs McKinnon and Mr Harrison. Thanks to the members of staff who kindly sponsored the group we were able to donate $1400 to the charity. Well done everyone!

Clothes and Blankets for Mongolia Appeal

There are now several boxes of donated clothes and blankets in the school entrance. They will be collected by the organisers of the charity next Tuesday so there is still time for you to send in any clothes and blankets that you might have.

Box of Hope

We are about to embark upon our annual 'Box of Hope' charity appeal, which will be led by the Year 1 children and MAD Club, but will be open to all year groups. One of the founders of the charity came to speak to the MAD Club before the half term holiday so they are now quite knowledgable about it. The project will be explained to the whole school in assembly on Monday. Look out for the flyer your child will bring home explaining everything about this wonderful project and how we can support it.

 PTA

Dear Parents,

As a new initiative, the PTA will be producing a PTA directory that will contain contact details of all classes and children in the school.

This will enable parents to contact other children's parents for birthdays, outings and school visits.

The consent form will be sent home to your child next Monday, 31th October.  Please complete the form and return to school before Friday 4th November.

We hope that this new initiative will enable our school community to keep in touch.

All families will receive a copy of the directory and this should be strictly used for school communication purposes only. The information will only be updated annually.  If you choose not to provide your information, your child's name only will be listed.
