Dear Parents,
This will be the last newsletter for this term, one that has been extremely busy and exciting for the students at BHS. I look back at the exciting trips, performances, school camps and learning that has occurred and I can understand why the children are looking a little tired. I look forward to seeing you at the many X’mas choir performances we have planned over the next week and also at our fabulous PTA Carol Concert next Wednesday 14th December. Fingers crossed for a clear warm evening. Wishing you all a Merry X’mas and a peaceful New Year holiday and look forward to seeing you back at school on Tuesday 3rd January.
Farewells
Our fabulous PYP/VP, Amanda Gulliver, will sadly be leaving us at X’mas. Amanda is heading back to Adelaide, South Australia and I would like to thank her for all of the fantastic work she has done for BHS as both a VP and PYP Coordinator. Thank you Amanda, please keep in touch! The children and staff will miss you greatly. We also say goodbye to one of our LSC EAs Pavitra who is leaving us to study Speech Therapy in Australia. Good luck with your studies, Pavitra.
Our new VP/PYP coordinator Rachel Blaik will not be joining us until after Easter; however, she will be spending a day each week with us from January to ensure our PYP teacher planning is ongoing.
Parent Tip of the week
Thank you for the positive response to our new parent Tip of the week column …..today we will talk about ….the importance of PLAY!
Children spend six hours a day at school learning new things ….. not many adults learn “new” things every day. Imagine spending a whole day at work and then spending your spare time and weekends being sent to “extra-work” sessions.
Just like adults, it is vital that children have some downtime or time to play. For young children the importance of playing, socialising and interacting with friends is vitally important. So please limit the extra-curricular activities for your children to enable them to develop appropriate inter and intra personal skills. Extra-curricular activities are not “PLAY”. Attached is a fabulous article that was in a recent South China Morning Post emphasising the importance of play.
Babies……..again!
Congratulations to our EA Liza and Scott Turner on the birth of their 3rd child a beautiful bouncing baby girl. Also, good luck to Miss Emily Jeves and Andy whose 1st baby is due on 28th December.
Year Five Sharing Unit/4H Assembly
Well done to Year 5 for their amazing Sharing Unit last week. The depth of understanding and learning from the students was amazing. A big thank you to the students of Year 5 and all the teachers who supported them. Today 4H taught us how to be responsible through their class assembly on “Responsibility”. They even volunteered to be “responsible” and clean my office.
Have a great weekend.
Yours sincerely, John Brewster
