Music Monthly Update #10

Students are exploring pitch in music.

They are learning songs and using appropriate sounds and musical instruments to show high and low.

Students will be increasing their repertoire of songs and using tuned and un-tuned percussion instruments to accompany performances.

We will also be examining the way we can notate musical ideas such as pitch and rhythm.

Students are continuing to explore musical sounds which suggest scenes or scenarios.

Using classroom instruments they are composing short pieces exploring the timbres of the different instruments  as well as their voices.

Students are composing music which describes a journey and various places they visit on the way.

Children are using appropriate instruments and sounds to convey ideas about some of these destinations.

Drawing on their knowledge of musical conventions that composers such as major minor tonality, sequences, drones and ornamentation, the students are devising their own compositions.

Having finished their PYP Exhibition, students are rehearsing music and songs from Ali Baba that will be performed on Wednesday 28th June at 7pm in the school hall.

Rehearsals are in the final stages  for Ali Baba, a musical that is loosely based around the traditional story of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves.

We will be performing to the school on Tuesday 27th June and to the parents on Wednesday evening.
