Dear Parents,

We have had a very busy week in Beacon Hill this week.  We have had our U11 Girls’ Netball team participating in a tournament winning the Bowl competition, congratulations to them.  Our girls football team were also competing in the Kellet Girl’s Football Tournament where they were very successful, winning the cup competition. Congratulations to all of those involved.  We have had our Year 5s furthering their understanding of the difficulties some have in the world in gaining access to clean water during their trip to the Crossroads site.  Our Year 6s have been finding out more about how museums create displays and artefacts to engage their target audiences through visiting the Science and History museums too.  We have also, as part of our 50th anniversary, had our PTA Christmas Discos with a 60s theme.  It was wonderful to see the 60s costumes that the children wore in yesterday’s Yrs 1-3 disco, and I am sure it will be the same for tonight’s Yrs 4-6 disco, and I am sure all who attended had a great time.

Looking ahead, next Friday, 8th December is our Sunshine Action day where all the children will be helping to make food parcels that will be used by various charities across Hong Kong to support those in our community who are in real need.  Thanks to your generosity earlier this term we are aiming to produce 1,600 food parcels during the day, so I am sure we will all be very busy next week.

This morning 3S treated us to a wonderful assembly, sharing their learning about a bag of worries that followed them around, mainly about camp, and how they managed to overcome their worries.  I particularly enjoyed the message that our worries are easier to deal with if we share them, and talk through them, with others.  It was wonderful to see such an inspiring assembly.

Our choir, and Beacon Hill’s community choir, are performing on Saturday, 2nd December at Island School’s fair. If you are there make sure you look out for their performance at approximately 2:10pm.  I am sure they will do us all proud. Please see below for more dates and times the choir is performing in the coming weeks.

IMPORTANT DATES

Our Chamber Choir has been rehearsing hard for many performances in several Hong Kong shopping malls in the next 2 weeks. I hope you get time to watch and support them. The dates and venues are listed here:

A reminder of our upcoming events to mark the BHS 50th Anniversary:

Great BHS Christmas Bake Off

14th December 2017

Our Great Beacon Hill Bake Off will take place on Thursday 14th December. All of the cakes will then be on display and available for sale that evening at the Christmas Concert and the winner will be announced. Sports for All

A small group of students and parents from Beacon Hill School went to Discovery Bay International School for a very enjoyable day on Thursday 23rd November. Four different schools participated in a variety of events including drumming, parachute games, obstacle courses and even capoeira. Our students were open minded, courageous, and caring and we were very proud of them all.

Thanks to all the parents who were able to come along and support. We hope to be able to participate in more of these events in the future.

Kowloon Schools Netball Tournament

Ten girls from Year 6 represented Beacon Hill at the Kowloon Schools netball tournament hosted at KJS on Thursday 23rd November. They got the opportunity to play seven other school teams and did our school so proud. Although they lost the first three matches to DBIS, CWB and KJS, by the fourth game they had shaken off the nerves and achieved a draw with ICHK. The girls went on to win their final three matches 7-2, 6-1 and 10-0 against SJS, DC and RCHK where they picked up momentum and played brilliantly together as a team. Well done to each of you for your outstanding efforts, great job to our captain Carrie and thank you to the parents who came along to support!

Kellett Under 11 Girls Football Tournament

Well done to the girl’s football team who won the Kellett Under 11 girl’s football tournament yesterday. They played a grueling 8 games and went unbeaten throughout the whole tournament without conceding a goal which is a fantastic achievement.

Our first game was against Kennedy B and thanks to hat-tricks from Mia and Rei we were comfortable six nil winners. Against Quarry Bay it was another 6-0 victory with the highlight being Cameron scoring her first BHS goal. Our next two games were tough but we held on to beat Kellett and GSIS 1 nil. Amazingly it was another 6 nil win against RCHK B with Mia scoring her third hat-trick of the day. Straight after that was another 1 nil victory against Harrow. 6 group games and 6 wins meant we were top of our group. In the group games we had played our best football this season.

Our semi-final was against Kellett and we dominated the match with Tian Wen, our goalkeeper, only touching the ball twice. Carrie, Hermia and Kaeli stopped all their attacks and with our midfield and attackers running all day we were victorious 3 nil.

In the final we meet GSIS again and we were by far the best team with once again Tian Wen having nothing to do in the final. Mia scored a wonder goal to start it off and Rei scored two more and we were  3 nil winners.

Well done to all the girls and also to the fantastic parental supporters.
