Dear Parents,

It has been wonderful to see everyone back at school this week after what I hope was a restful holiday last week.

This morning we were treated to a fabulous ‘Diwali’ assembly by 2A. They informed and entertained us through their sharing of the traditions and stories of Diwali. Thank you to some of our Year 4 to 6 children who also performed. The assembly was made even more special with everyone in school dressed in bright colours to jointly celebrate Diwali and in support of the Hong Kong Community Chest Dress Casual Day. Thank you to Mrs Detaramani and the other adults who helped the students, the parents for your support for the children and to those members of staff who volunteered to take part in the dancing!

Giving Back to our Community: Colours Day

We are still amazed at the response from the community towards our fundraising project that took place in the week prior to the half-term holiday. This week children have been bringing their collected sponsorship money. As of today we have raised a staggering HK$151,000!!

If there is any money that has not been brought in please send it in with your child next week so we can calculate our grand total.

Language Clubs at BHS

We are very fortunate at BHS in that we have an amazing parent community. This extends to groups of dedicated parents who work together and with the support of ESF to offer language clubs to support our students whose mother tongue is Japanese, Korean or Chinese (Mandarin). The newest addition is the Mandarin club which takes place on Monday lunchtimes. The session is open to all students who would benefit from this and they need to speak with their class teacher if they wish to take part.

Green Team

One Child, One Flower

Our Green Team has now distributed out this year’s plant and so each child should have received their very own Yellow Alder flower yesterday. Please follow the instructions on this flyer to look after it. I recommend you repot very soon, you may want to re-use an old container for it’s new pot, it doesn’t have to be fancy. Good luck! I can’t wait to see your pictures.

Mother Tongue Story Telling and Mother Tongue Book Donations

Last year a group of parents read stories in their mother tongue to our students on a Tuesday and Thursday lunchtime.  The students and parents had a wonderful time sharing stories in their language.  If you are interested and have the time please click here to sign up.  Any time that you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

We would also like to increase the range of books we have in the range of languages we have spoken within a community at school.  If you have a book that you would like to donate, gently used or new, please ask your child to hand in to the school office.

If you have any questions or some ideas on how to promote your Mother Tongue please get in contact with me via email, andy.thompson@bhs.edu.hk
