Welcome to Year 4!

This week the kids have settled in well to school.  They have learned new routines and classroom expectations and rekindled friendships with their peers.  Dance and music sessions have started with Mrs Martin and Mr Gibson in preparation for the sharing day.

Home school diaries now have your teacher’s schedule in them.  Please check these for P.E. and Learning Centre days so that your child is adequately equipped for lessons.

More information will be shared with you at the ‘Meet the Teacher’ night on the 1st September.

Who We Are

Central Idea: Beliefs and values can influence our attitudes and the way we behave

Lines of Inquiry

  1. Our different beliefs
  2. Where our values come from
  3. Our behaviours and attitudes

Concepts: Connection and Perspective

Learner Profile: Open minded

Attitudes: Tolerance and Respect

In this unit the children will be inquiring into theirs and others’ personal beliefs and values. Making connections to themselves and others.  Learning will take place through the arts; music, ICT, drama, dance and visual art, and this will be shared with you at the end of the unit.

This week we discussed the central idea and began our tuning in through stories, yoga, drama and dance.

Pattern and Function

Central Idea

Analysing patterns and identifying rules for patterns make it possible to make predictions

Line of Inquiry

The ways in which patterns can be described and represented

This week we:

  • Used problem solving to investigate repetitive patterns
  • Began our Math’s assessment

Poetry is the text type for our first Unit of Inquiry.  We will focus on these three types of poetry: Kennings, Cinquain and Haiku.  With each of these forms of poetry students will listen to examples, explore how each are written and then experience writing their own examples.

Grammar:  Nouns and Verbs

Spelling: Beginning of year assessments

No Golden Book this week.  We will start to award certificates next week.
