Start of School Arrangements
Please note that students should not arrive at school before 8.30am. Teachers are on duty from 8.30am. Any child who arrives early cannot be supervised.
Healthy Living at BHS
We promote healthy living at BHS and therefore children should only bring water to school. Please do not send milk drinks, sugary drinks or any other kind of drink. We have water fountains and taps where students can refill their (BHS) water bottles throughout the day.

All children need a school hat and water bottle every day. Please ensure they are clearly labelled with your child’s name.

Thank you to all the parents who came to Penfold Park with us on Wednesday. The children had a wonderful day out making many different healthy choices.

Before we left for the park, the children made their healthy sandwiches.

It was great to see that most children made healthy choices about the snacks they brought to school.

At the park the children took part in many different activities.

Central idea: Lifestyle choices can affect human health and well-being

Lines of inquiry:

  1. What it means to have a balanced lifestyle
  2. The choices we make affect our health
  3. Lifestyle changes

The children will finish their reflections on our first unit of inquiry and complete a summative task.

We will start our next inquiry which is all about the environment.

CENTRAL IDEA: We collect and organise data to make sense of the world around us

LINES OF INQUIRY:

  • Gathering information
  • Representing information
  • Interpreting information

The children will continue to collect, organise and interpret a variety of data. We will be looking at tally charts, pictographs and bar charts. Some data handling activities for Mathletics should be completed at home.

In phonics we are looking at the long e sound: ee, ea, y and e. (tree, seat, happy, me).
Please continue to read with your child at home and ask them to retell the story.
 Well done to:
2K – Valerie Lau
2D – Yik Wa Ho
2A- Serene Fung
Mandarin – Megan Wong 2K
PE – Sean Sham 2A
SLT Award – Obi Mak 2K, Sean Sham 2A, Darsh Goyani 2D & Yi Kai Tan 2D
Darsh and Yi Kai took their own initiative to organise a survey to find out how many birds they could see flying around BHS. They realised a lot of birds came to the school, so they designed a bird house which the caretakers helped them to make. Well done. We will have to keep an eye on it to see if any birds move in.
homelearning
Please be reminded that in Year 2, your child will not bring home a reading book on Tuesday or Thursday they will need to read on Reading Eggs or Big Universe. Children login and select ‘My Library’ from the top of the page. At the right hand side in the ‘Filters’ section they can select the ‘Grade Level’ of books. If the children select kindergarten, grade 1 and 2 this is the most appropriate reading age for them (5-8 years).

Mandarin – All children are encouraged to take a reading book home on the days when they have Mandarin lessons.

Giving Back to our Community:Colours Day – Friday 29th September

As part of our 50th celebrations we are aiming to give back to our community by holding an Action Day on the 8th December in partnership with Bethune House, Sunshine Action, Sai Kung Stray Dogs and Soap Cycling. On the 8th December each year group will have the opportunity to help make food parcels to help those who are in need in Hong Kong. More details will follow about that day as we get closer to it.  We are aiming high and the amount of money we need to raise equates to $250 per child.

To kick-start our fundraising, we are going to have 4 days of lunchtime activities where children can make a minimum donation of HK$20 to join in fun events such as karaoke. This will build up to a very special day on Friday 29th September we are calling ‘Colours Day’ where all children will take part in one of two sponsored events – either a sponsored walk/run or a sponsored readathon depending on their interest.  Each year group will have half an hour for the events. Sponsor forms can be downloaded and printed off from today’s Newsletter. We encourage all our students and their families to support this day of action to help in our drive to support those in our community who are in need. And of course, on Friday 29th all students should come dressed in their house colours.
