The children are all now very familiar with the language of the ‘Zones of Regulation’, understanding that their main aim to is to be in the Green Zone at school (ready to learn) but that sometimes you may feel something else. We have been looking at when we feel these different emotions by playing card games and board games. It would be great for the children to have this language reinforced at home. Maybe you might like to play a board game together at home. Talk about when do you feel safe and happy and when might things change? What different behaviours might you see when playing together?

In Inquiry this week the children have looked at some behaviours when playing together. They have linked the emotions and behaviours to the zones of regulation to show how they are feeling.

In Maths this week the children have been reviewing different things we have learned this year, including shape and space and pattern and function. They have looked at sorting, describing, comparing and labelling regular and irregular 2D and 3D shapes.

In English this week the children have begin to look our final text type of the year, exposition with the purpose of writing to persuade. So far they have looked at some of the features of a persuasive text. We have also made a start with the last comprehension strategy, making connections, which we will continue with until the end of the year. The children will make links between the text and what they already know. They will be looking at text-to-self, text-to-text and text-to-world connections.

By working together people can achieve more.

We will be inquiring into:

  1. Shared goals in group situations  (connection)
  2. Skills and behaviour that support collaboration (responsibility)
  3. Impact of their behaviour on a shared goal (reflection)

This coming week the children will be learning about why we feel different emotions and what to do when we are not feeling in control. We will be looking at how our brains react and how we can make mindful decisions. We will be watching different videos of the children playing games and looking for different behaviours. We will be continuing with our circle times and Information Literacy lessons.
