Please note that students should not arrive at school before 8.30am. Teachers are on duty from 8.30am. Any child who arrives early cannot be supervised.
Healthy Living at BHS
We promote healthy living at BHS and therefore children should only bring water to school. Please do not send milk drinks, sugary drinks or any other kind of drink. We have water fountains and taps where students can refill their (BHS) water bottles throughout the day.
The Year 6 students set the example to other children in the school and bringing in large bags of M and Ms or McDonald’s for snack and lunch is simply unacceptable. We appreciate your support as always.

Deodorant
As the children are growing and changing their bodies will begin to sweat, especially in these hot summer months. Please provide your children with deodorant and remind them to keep clean and hygienic.

Year 6 Action Board – Global Goals

In September 2015, 193 world leaders agreed to 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development. If these Goals are completed, it would mean an end to extreme poverty, inequality and climate change by 2030.

Our governments have a plan to save our planet…it’s our job to make sure they stick to it.

The Global Goals are only going to work if we fight for them and you can’t fight for your rights if you don’t know what they are. We believe the Goals are only going to be completed if we can make them famous.

In Year 6 we are keeping track of all the amazing Action happening at school and at home.

Function – We will understand the purpose and impact that leadership can have on us

Learner Profile : principled, courageous

Attitudes : commitment, integrity

This week we concluded our Leadership unit. The children shared their learning through various mediums and they had chance to reflect on what each other learnt. It was so amazing to find out so much about different leaders from all over the world – good and bad, young and old. Speak to your children about their individual inquiries.

Number Maths – Place Value

Central Idea – The base 10 place value system extends infinitely in two directions.

Students have been applying their knowledge of the place value system to inquire into number patterns and rules.

Strand Maths – Measurement

Central Idea – Conversion of units and measurements allows us to make sense of the world we live in.

The children have been learning about measurement through their own body. Using this information they have been challenged to solve a variety of problems.

We finished our persuasive writing unit this week. Each Year 6 class has been looking at different forms of persuasion and writing for different purposes. 6H had a visit from Mr Hoskins’ friends from Wales, U.K. The children in 6H designed and created persuasive brochures in order to sell Hong Kong as a tourist destination to some first time visitors and they were very impressed with the work that was produced.

Spelling : The children should be tested on their words at home 3 times per week ready for our buddy test on Friday.  Any words that the children spell incorrectly during the buddy test on Friday will get carried over to next week’s ‘Words I need to learn…’  All children need to remember to bring in their Spelling Journals each day.

Reading : Each child should be reading throughout the week. Don’t forget to think about your weekly reflection for your Reading Journals!

UOI- Get thinking about conflict! Can you think of any examples of conflict that you have seen or experienced? Create a mind map showing your wonderings and maybe even add some questions that you would like to inquire in to. Think about conflict in the news, at home, at school and in art to get you started! Show us your learning on paper or on a Google Drawing. Go on, get creative! See the great example of a mind map below, all about global warming.
