Year 5 Update Wk 15

UOI:
 Next week,the children will complete their Migration summative assessment in order to demonstrate their learning from the unit linked to the central idea and lines of inquiry. This means that later on in the week they will be introduced to their new UOI- Water and we look forward to the inquiry that comes with it.St Marys Kiosk 1 larger pics for AoM
5A will begin to gather ideas for their class assembly on 8th January.

In strand maths next week the classes will start to explore the concepts of Capacity & Volume through a series of tasks and active learning.

Number math moves on within the four operations and the children will start to look at and share mental and written strategies for multiplication and division.

non fiction

Within the next unit, Year 5 will be identifying the importance of reference and explanation books. We will be learning how to search for relevant and useful information, study the layout and presentation of these types of texts as well as working closely with Ms.Jeves in the Learning Centre. She will be helping us to further our knowledge and inquiry skills through research.

Explore the central idea for our new unit of inquiry- Water. The children have brought home a mind map starter sheet to plot their ideas, thoughts, questions etc about the new unit. They are to add to this sheet so that they can share their current knowledge in class next week.

 Family borrowing from the library:

As you will have seen in the school newsletter it is now possible for parents, younger children and other family members to borrow from our library.  By registering for a family borrowing card you can borrow two books from any section of the library, including the new Parent Collection which contains books about healthy living, behaviour management, fun art activities and days out for children in Hong Kong.  The library is open for family borrowing at these times…
