Dear Parents,

With just a week to go before we finish for the Christmas break, I am happy to report that the children and staff are all still working incredibly hard. We have had some colds and ‘flu – if your child is unwell, please keep them at home so they can recover more quickly and so that the coughs and colds are not spread to others.

Our choir has been performing around Hong Kong and still have some more performances before our very own Christmas Concert on Wednesday at 7pm. I look forward to seeing you then. STOP PRESS!! I have just been informed that all of the tickets for the Christmas Concert have been sold.

3H Class Assembly

Well done to 3H who shared their class assembly this morning. We found out all about their camp, how they felt before going, what their experience was like once there, how they felt afterwards and what they learned from the whole experience. They told us how grateful they are for the wonderful opportunities they get and for having fabulous friends – and of course having wonderful parents and teachers! Thank you to Mr Hubbard, Mrs Kamaruddin and the other adults who helped 3H prepare for their assembly.

Trip to Nanhai, Foshan

Last week I spent three days in Nanhai, Foshan, with 10 of our Y6 students and 90 other ESF students. We were looked after extremely well by our hosts, visited three different schools, learned more about the culture and traditions of the region and made some new and hopefully lasting friendships. We are hoping this will be the beginning of a link with the schools we visited and are beginning to plan for a reciprocal visit, possible in June next year. I will keep you updated. Photos from the trip can be seen here.

Sporting Achievements

A very busy sports programme this term concluded with the ESF Football and Netball Tournaments. Sadly the netball was postponed last Saturday, however, the organisers have rescheduled the tournament for Saturday 9th January. The ESF Football Tournament did go ahead and once again our team did a remarkable job getting all the way through to the Shield finals. You can read more about it further on in the newsletter. Thank you to all the parents and the teacher/coaches who have given such amazing support to the children throughout the term. Finally though, congratulations to the players!!

Community Choir

Thank you to those who have already signed up! We have approximately 35 members so far. Some of you may have seen the British TV programmes based around the formation of choirs, such as ‘Military Wives’ and this has inspired Mr Gibson and myself to set up a BHS Community Choir. This would be open to all parents of BHS students and to BHS Staff. The choir will begin in January, rehearsing on Thursday evenings from 7pm. We would hope to perform at school for the Chinese New Year evening and for the International Food Fair. There won’t be auditions – just enthusiasm is required! If you are interested, please sign up at the following: http://goo.gl/forms/fHNKBF35kU

Go on – don’t be shy!

Have a lovely weekend.

Environment

Christmas is drawing near and I am sure that you will soon be heading to the shops to find the ideal Christmas presents for your family. This Christmas, why not give a gift that someone enjoys but is also educational and benefits our planet?

WWF in Hong Kong has some lovely gifts that you can give. You could also adopt an animal. Although it is only a symbolic adoption, you get a wonderful adoption kit and the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping an endangered species. See their website for more information.

Boys Football

IMG_3529On Saturday December 5th the boys football team played in the last tournament of the year, the ESF primary schools tournament. We were drawn in a tough group and started with a loss to DBIS 3 nil. Against DBIS we had our chances but just didn’t finish them. The second game was against the Peak and we dominated the game and spent it camped in their goalmouth but just couldn’t score and the game finished nil all. Our third was against ICHK HLY and once again we played well but lost 2 nil. The next two games were our best games of the day. We beat RCHK ‘B’ 5 nil with goals from Praise (2), Jotaro, Ronny and Samarpan and followed it up with a great comeback against Discovery College. We were down two nil in the first 5 minutes and then Ronny and Praise scored to make it 2 all. We had finished 4th in a very tough group.

We had made the shield semis and we played outstanding defensive football in the semi and beat RCHK ‘A’ one nil thanks to a great goal from Samarpan. Our shield final opponents were HKIS and in a an exciting final neither team were able to score and it went to penalties. In the shootout we lost 2 -1 and finished as runners up. Well done to all the boys as the boys team produced excellent results this season. Thanks to all the supporters who came to cheer us on!

Cold Weather

Dear Parents,

As the weather is cooling down a number of students have started wearing extra layers underneath their PE shirt. Instead of this please can they wear a layer on top of their pe shirt, e.g. the school jumper or jacket, as this can be easily taken off once the temperature rises in the day. It is difficult for the students to perform in PE if they are wearing multiple layers of clothing underneath.

Also, can you also ensure that your child is has the correct tracksuit pants length. Gymnastics and PMP are done without shoes and socks and the length of some of the tracksuit pants are too long and are a safety concern.

Thanks,

Mr Teahan

Teachers vs Students Netball

On Thursday 10th December 2015 it was the last netball training of the year. For some of the Year 6’s it was the last time they would play netball at BHS. To end a fantastic netball season Miss Andrews and Miss Younie organised a special student vs staff netball match. The children had great fun playing against Mr Harrison, Mr Teahan, Mr Hoskins, Ms Liao, Ms Kannis, Ms Barr, Mrs Sanghvi and Mrs Mahbubani. The games were full of great passing and excellent team work, the students enjoyed the friendly competition against the staff. Jessica, Noriyasu, Armaan and Sze Ching even got a chance to do some umpiring of the games.
