Dear Parents,

Our Year 6 students reached a milestone in their primary school education this week with the culmination of their PYP Exhibition. Over the last few weeks they and their teachers have been working incredibly hard in preparation and they shared the fruits of their labours with the community on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. I was so pleased to see the passion the children have which shone through. Everything they and the past teachers have done over the last six years has contributed to the success this week. Well done to all of the children, thank you to all their teachers and other staff who have supported them along the way and thanks too to the parents. Click HERE for more photos and for the introduction video.

Our calendar for the new academic year is now finalised. We have been waiting for the Hong Kong Government to confirm the gazetted holidays. You can view a copy of the calendar on our website: https://www.beaconhill.edu.hk/calendar-2/

This week our Year 2s enjoyed a very successful, if not hot, trip to Discovery Bay using a variety of types of transport and routes they had planned themselves. This trip could only occur thanks to the support of parents who were able to take groups on the day. Thank you to them and I am pleased to say all of the children arrived on time in Discovery bay – their route planning worked!

This week we have had several KGV Year 10 students on work experience placement with us – may of them are ex-BHS students. It was great to see how they have grown and they were excellent ambassadors of KGV and ESF.

For the last several years we have been able to offer hot lunches at school with the external provider ‘Deli Fresh’. Unfortunately they will not be able to continue this in the new academic year due to our small size. The PTA have been working hard to find an alternative supplier. We need to know how much interest there is from parents in this service. You received an eNotice last week inviting you to complete a 1 minute survey which which will help us know if we can continue the hot lunch service in future or not. I would be very grateful if you can take a short amount of time to complete the survey.

IMPORTANT DATES

ACTION

Earlier this year our Year 5 students and teachers worked hard with their ‘Big Business’ unit. I am pleased to share with you an email we received this week from Carolyn Murray who works to support a kindergarten in Sudan:

Dear Staff and students of BHS,

Thank you for your hard work raising an incredible HK$40,582 to help the children in Yei purchase some outdoor play equipment. They are very excited knowing that they will soon have some new things to play on and asked me to say a huge thank you to you all for thinking of them and working so hard to raise the money.

The money that is left over from buying that equipment will help the children to have a meal each day and buy some new resources for their classroom.

I have attached a thank you with some photos and will send you some photos of the new equipment when they have purchased and installed it.  I will also put some photos and information about your hard work on our website so watch out for that in the next few days at http://www.immanuelkindergarten.org/305391271

Thank you again for all you did.

Best wishes

Carolyn Murray

It is wonderful to know that our students are making a positive difference around the world.

Monday 21st of May is a BHS CPD and Tuesday 22nd is a public holiday. We will see the children back in school on Wednesday 23rd May. Enjoy the long weekend.

Enjoy the weekend.
