Dear Parents

Year 3 Sharing

Well done to the Year 3s on their successful sharing morning with parents this week.  Unfortunately, I was on camp and missed it but the teachers have reported how very proud they were of the children who shared confidently and enthusiastically!

CAMPS

Our Camp Season is over for another year.  I enjoyed spending time with all children at camp and watching them challenge themselves in new activities.  This week it was our Year 4, 5 and 6 students who set off for camp.  The children behaved incredibly and were a real credit to BHS.  I witnessed so many acts of kindness, encouragement for each other and genuine care!  We hope you have enjoyed sharing these adventures through the Camp facebook pages.  Again my thanks go to all the staff who accompanied these children on camp, ensuring they were well looked after! All camp photos can be found HERE.

Wellbeing Focus

We are continuing our work on developing student wellbeing and have taken feedback from the students to define the 5 ways to wellbeing in child speak.  We will publish those for parents next term.

Boxes of Hope

Thank you to all parents, students and staff for the tremendous support we have received for our Box of Hope collection.  We were able to pass on 247 boxes which will go to children around Asia.

CIS Preparatory Evaluation

In March 2019, BHS will be hosting a preparatory visit from the Council of International Schools.  They are an accrediting organisation who supports schools in their journey to continued excellence.  As part of this process, I will need to gather views from our Parents, School Council, Staff and Students as to how appropriate our Vision and Mission is for the students we serve.  I would be grateful if you could spare a few minutes to complete the google forms linked here.

Mandarin Mondays

We have been reading stories from the famous Chinese novel “Journey to the West” in our Mandarin Club every Monday. This Monday, we will share a story many of you may not have read yet. The story is about two monster brothers. The elder one is called Golden Horn and the younger Silver Horn. Can you guess who or what they are?  Usually, the monsters in “Journey to the West” have special weapons or powers. Now, these two monster brothers also have a powerful weapon and it looks like a gourd. Do you want to know what this gourd can do? Again, can our hero Monkey King defeat them? If so, how did he do it? Come, come join us on Monday and we will find out together.

BHS Chamber Choir

The festive season is my favourite time of the year.  I love admiring the decorations in the shopping malls and the sounds of Christmas Music but I especially love the chance to watch our very own BHS Chamber Choir perform around HK.  Here are the dates and venues for their performances in December:

Student Achievement

Alessandro Di Giulio (4W) achieved his brown belt in Kung Fu on Sunday 18 November at Heng Yue Yen Kwon Kung Fu. Alessandro participates in Kung Fu on Fridays after school at BHS as part of the ESF sports programme. Good work Alessandro!

At BHS we value the importance of developing the ‘whole’ child and this means valuing their achievement and interests outside of school.  If your child has achieved something special, we would be happy to share that with the BHS community through this newsletter.  Please email details and a photograph to kannis.tsui@bhs.edu.hk

Camp Season Ends

Please take some time this weekend to enjoy the photographs for camp and let your child talk about all their adventures, what new things they have learned, how they have developed more independence and what new challenges they may set themselves for next year’s camp.

Whilst we endeavoured to keep you updated on the camp adventures with photographs, our teachers’ and instructors’ main responsibility was to ensure our children were safe and getting the most out of the camp experience.
