Dear Parents,

Well done to all the students in 3M who shared with us a wonderful assembly all about their camp experience.  The children performed confidently and enthusiastically!  They were able to share their own definition of the 5 ways to wellbeing which was the perfect way to start our first ever Student Wellbeing day.

Thank you to the Parents and Teachers who supported our PTA Disco event this Thursday.  We hope the new arrangement of having both the lower and upper phase of the school on the same day makes travel arrangements easier for parents.

A big shout out too to the students for remembering to bring their own containers and cups.  It was a small act which made a HUGE difference!

We would love to extend this to parents and students who will come along to our Christmas Concert on Wednesday.  Please can we ask all parents to follow the children’s lead by bringing their own reusable cups and containers.

Wellbeing Focus

Today we hosted our first ever Student Wellbeing Day.  All the children had a choice in which activities they wanted to try.  The focus of the day was to give the students opportunities to try new things, make new friends and reflect on their wellbeing.  The children had lunch and break in their House groups.  Please talk to your child about what they participated in today and what were the highlights for them.

Mandarin Mondays

Next Monday will be our last Mandarin Club before the holidays. We have been reading stories from the famous Chinese novel “Journey to the West”. We have shared so many stories about how Monkey King defeated different monsters, but do you know Monkey King also ran into big trouble with a unique monster who he found so hard to fight against? It is because this monster looks exactly like Monkey King and no one seems able to distinguish one from the other. Now, this is a BIG problem! If they cannot figure out who is the real Monkey King and who is the imposter, they can all be in great danger and cannot continue the Journey. So, were they able to shatter the ingenious disguise of the imposter? If so, how and who helped them? Come join us on Monday and let’s found out together.

Reminder of the Great Beacon Hill Bake Off

Our Great Beacon Hill Bake Off is BACK and will take place on Wednesday 12th December. To take part, you need to bake a cake / some cakes, cookies, gingerbread houses, mince pies etc at home which you are happy to donate and deliver them to school on the morning of 12th December when they will be judged. All of the cakes will then be on display and available for sale that evening at the Christmas Concert and the winner will be announced. Please make sure your entry is clearly labelled and any containers you send your cakes in have your child’s name and class marked on them so we can return them to you.

BHS Chamber Choir

The festive season is my favourite time of the year.  I love admiring the decorations in the shopping malls and the sounds of Christmas Music but I especially love the chance to watch our very own BHS Chamber Choir perform around HK.  Here are the dates and venues for their performances in December:

Student Achievement

On November 30, Sera Yang (6Y) joined the 70th Hong Kong School Speech Festival. She performed “Alone in the Grange” by Gregory Harrison for the Solo Verse Speaking Primary 6 section. Sera had been practicing very hard on her own over the last month and presenting her emotions and expressions. It all paid off and she won 3rd place! Fantastic job Sera!

Nicole Cheng (4W) has had a busy weekend! She participated in the ESF Swimming Gala 2018 on December 1, which was held at South Island School. This was the first time she had ever participated in a swimming competition! She tried her best and won two silver medals! One for 25m Freestyle, and one for 25m backstroke.

She also participated in Hong Kong (Asia) Dance Festival at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium on December 2. It was again her first time participating in a ballet competition and won the silver medal for solo ballet. Keep it up Nicole!

On December 2, Lincoln Liu (2K) participated in 2018 Yan Oi Tong Taekwondo Championship Competition and won the champion in boy sparring for his age group. He started learning Taekwondo since he was 3. He has enjoyed every game he has played in and the opportunity to improve his skills. Keep going Lincoln!

On December 2, Arthur Chui (4A) and Charlotte Wan (4A) performed as lead characters in three shows of “Winter Wonderland” Musical Theatre at the JC Cube, Tai Kwun. They rehearsed for many hours and did their very best. Bravo!

At BHS we value the importance of developing the ‘whole’ child and this means valuing their achievement and interests outside of school.  If your child has achieved something special, we would be happy to share that with the BHS community through this newsletter.  Please email details and a photograph to kannis.tsui@bhs.edu.hk

Panning For Gold

We would like to thank Mr. Gibson and the Year 5 students for a wonderful lunchtime activity called ‘Panning for Gold’.  This was an opportunity for the students to share their talents.  We had singers, pianist, violinists, dancers and a saxophonist who dazzled the audience with their talents.

Wanted: Old Electronics

We are hoping to collect old electronic or battery operated items and toys that have moving parts that are no longer needed as part of our Makers stock.  If you have anything you can donate please send it to school and put it in the collection box in the foyer labelled Old Electronics.

Many thanks.
