Dear Parents,

BHS

It has been a rather short week at BHS for students due to public holidays and the BHS professional development day for all staff.  We now only have six weeks before the end of year and so many exciting things yet to come.

BHS

Well done to 4A on a fabulous class assembly, which demonstrated the wonderful inclusive ethos we have at BHS.  The children shared how we are all unique through a story.  We also got to see their amazing ukulele playing, singing and dancing.  Thanks also to Year 6, 3M and the parents for being a part of the assembly.  Thank you to Miss Andrews, Mrs Saxena, Mrs Turner, Mr Dealino, Miss Kannis and Mr Gibson for supporting the students.

BHS

If you are withdrawing your child at the end of this academic year, please complete the student withdrawal notice and return it to the school office as soon as possible. Please contact Mrs Barbara Woo (Admissions Officer) if you need assistance with this matter barbara.woo@bhs.edu.hk

Whatsapp Communication

We are aware that there are some Whatsapp groups amongst some parents and would like to remind you that the most reliable information about school life is found through the newsletter or by contacting the school directly. Please use the correct lines of communication found through the newsletter, weekly updates or through the class teacher to update yourselves about life at BHS.

BHS

Wellbeing Focus

At BHS our door is always open to parents and we welcome contact about your child and school life. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher, specialist teachers, myself or members of the school’s leadership team if you need any assistance with matters related to your child.

BHS

Healthy Snack and Lunches

We encourage and support the children bringing healthy snacks to school. Please make a commitment to ensure your child has healthy snacks rather than cakes, cookies and chips. Fruit and veg are great alternatives.  It’s also timely to remind you that BHS is a ‘nut free zone’ as we have some students who are extremely allergic to nuts and any products containing them. Thank you for your support with this.

BHS

At BHS we value the importance of developing the ‘whole’ child and this means valuing their achievement and interests outside of school.  If your child has achieved something special, we would be happy to share that with the BHS community through this newsletter.  Please email details and a photograph to kannis.tsui@bhs.edu.hk

Action in the PYP at BHS

May – Charlotte Ma (3W) and Heston Ma (4W) have had a very fruitful month. They participated in various community services such as serving 100 elderlies for lunch, nursing home visit, charity flag selling and visiting elderlies who are living alone with home cooked meals. May the children continue to show compassion and spread their love to the wider community especially those in need! Well done Charlotte and Heston!

BHS

Action in the PYP is when students are inspired through their learning and their experiences to make a difference to their lives or the community connected to real life issues and opportunities.  We would like to celebrate our students taking action outside of school.

Please email examples to kannis.tsui@bhs.edu.hk, and they will share through our newsletter.

BHS

There are different types of Action.  Last time a description of how ‘participation’ is a form of action was given, below is an description of how advocacy is a form of action.

Mandarin Club

Previously, we have known the story about the piggy who is the second apprentice of Tang Monk. Next Monday 20th May our Mandarin Club will continue the story of ‘Journey to the West’. This time Monk Sha “沙僧” will be introduced who is the third apprentice of Monk Tang. Monk Sha used to live in heaven, however he has been punished to stay in the button of a river called “Liu Sha River”流沙河 which has blocked the way of Monkey King. Monkey King recognises Monk Sha is a monster who wants to eat Monk Tang. How do they solve the problem this time? Let’s meet at the Mandarin story time.

Community Choir

If you are interested in joining our community choir, we rehearse on Thursdays at 3pm and 7pm in the Music Room.

This is open to all parents of BHS students, ex-parents of BHS and to BHS Staff. Our next performance will be at the Summer Concert. No auditions or previous singing experience – just lots of enthusiasm needed!
