Dear Parents,

It was good to get the students back to school this Wednesday, after the school closure due to Typhoon Mangkhut. I hope families have been able to make any repairs to homes and that your travel routes are accessible.  I would like to thank our Site Staff at BHS for their diligence in assessing the school facilities and their quick response to cleaning-up the school in preparation for opening back up for students.

The PTA Bowling event last Friday seems a long time ago now but was a wonderful opportunity for families to meet their child’s classmates and put a face to the names.  A fun night was had by all.  Thank you to our PTA for arranging this event.

5D Class Assembly Rescheduled – Friday 5th October

As mentioned previously, we have a tree on the playground that has slightly uprooted and is awaiting removal.  As a precautionary measure, we have closed off part of our playground and the school hall to students.  As a result, it is necessary for us to postpone 5D’s class assembly to Friday 5th October.  Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Health & Safety

Dropping off and Picking up at School

We are noticing an increase in the traffic flow around school at the end of the school day.  Please can I ask parents and drivers to consider the following points to ensure the safety of our children as they walk along the road;

  • Please do not park in front of the school while the buses are parked.
  • Please be aware of the large numbers of parents and children who use the crossing arranged by our site staff and stop to allow them to cross if it is safe to do so.
  • Please do not park on the pavements, forcing pedestrians to move into the roadway to pass by.

Your assistance in making our roads safe is much appreciated.

Community Choir

Our BHS Community Choir will resume after the October half term break.  This is open to all parents of BHS students and to BHS Staff. The choir will be rehearsing on Thursday evenings from 7pm. We would hope to perform at the BHS Christmas Concert. No auditions or previous singing experience – just lots of enthusiasm needed!  More details nearer the time.

If you are interested in joining, please click HERE.

Mandarin Mondays

No Mandarin Monday Club for the next 2 Mondays due to BHS CPD day on 24th September and National Day Public holiday on 1st October.

Student Achievement

At BHS we value the importance of developing the ‘whole’ child and this means valuing their achievement and interests outside of school.  If your child has achieved something special, we would be happy to share that with the BHS community through this newsletter.  Please email details and a photograph to kannis.tsui@bhs.edu.hk

PTA Mid Autumn Market

Our Mid-Autumn Market was another great success this year.  The children had a great time and they all tried hard to practise their Mandarin.  The parent volunteers were very impressed with the children’s language abilities and polite manners.  This year, we introduced the sale of home-made mooncakes which sold out so quickly that we had to take orders.  A huge thank you to Ms. Susan Ho, our PTA Chair for undertaking this challenge and baking 100s of delicious mooncakes!  Thank you also to Janley, our PTA Coordinator and all the parents  who volunteered to help with sales.  It is this amazing community spirit that makes BHS a special place! Wishing you all a very happy Mid-Autumn Festival.

Hot Lunches

The deadline for October orders was Thursday 20 September.  Unfortunately DCK will no longer accept any further orders for October.

You may have noticed that the order form placed in your child’s home diary has their name & class.  These customised forms are prepared by DCK and will detail any credits which are due to your child.  Please use this form to make the order, if you did not receive it then you can contact DCK directly on 2464-1838.  Only the menu will be available on the BHS website.

Also, in light of the recent school closure brought about by the inclement weather you maybe wondering the situation regarding lunch cancellations.  As stated by DCK in the order form, no refunds will be given for inclement weather from EBD announcement, black rainstorm or No. 8 typhoon signal.  If cancellations are required due to special activities such as field trips / sports day, the school shall provide written notice to DCK at least 3 working days in advance.  For absent cancellations, that individual must call DCK on 2464-1838 before 8:30am to qualify for a refund/credit.  I hope this clarifies any concerns you may have.

ESF Festival of Music

Following the impact of Typhoon Mangkhut – and the subsequent clear-up and recovery operation that has been taking place across Hong Kong, EDB took the decision to suspend classes on Monday and Tuesday of this week. We fully support this decision, which was taken on the grounds of ensuring the safety of our staff and students.

However, the suspension of classes has meant that we have been unable to complete the final arrangements for this week’s Festival of Music. This means, regrettably, we have had to cancel all of this week’s events.

We know that a huge amount of hard work and effort has gone into preparing for the event, so this is not the end. We will reschedule the concerts for later in the year. The show will go on!

Please watch this space for latest announcements:
