Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival

Enjoy your celebrations over the weekend.  Please read further down in the newsletter to find out about the Mid-Autumn Market for the students at school on Friday.

Diversity House Day

This Friday will also be Diversity House Day.  All those children in Diversity House are encouraged to wear something GREEN on this day to celebrate and feel united as a group. We look forward to the Diversity Assembly on Friday too.

Year 7 Enrolment

As noted in prior newsletters – Parents of our Year 6 students need to submit an application for a Year 7 ESF place for August 2020 via The Gateway between Monday 2nd September and Friday 13th September 2019.  More details below.

Social and Emotional Learning

In assembly this week Ms Chung recapped on what it means to be an includer from last week and ways to show empathy. She then helped the children identify how to describe incidences when they go wrong and what to do in these situations.  She shared with the students that usually when something goes wrong with other children it is usually:

  • An accident
  • Someone being rude
  • Someone being mean
  • Or someone is bullying.

The students shared a clear understanding about what bullying is and isn’t.  This diagram helps to capture the main ideas.  In our next assembly we will continue to focus on this and help children build strategies of what to do when they are faced with these 4 sorts of situations above.

Kind regards,

Brenda Cook
Principal

Mandarin Monday

We had lots of fun last time when we talked about the Giant Panda. This time, we will talk about another famous animal. It is a big cat and is known as the King of the Woods. Can you guess what is it? It is the Tiger. Do you know what are the two types of tiger normally found in China? Where do they live? What are the differences between them? Can you share with us a few unique things you know about tigers? Do you have a tiger toy at home that you want to bring to our Club? So Come join us on Monday and let’s talk about the magnificent Tiger.

Action in the PYP is when students are inspired through their learning and their experiences to make a difference to their lives or the community connected to real life issues and opportunities.  We would like to celebrate our students taking action outside of school. If your child has taken any action, we would be happy to share that with the BHS community through this newsletter and through our Facebook page.  Please email details and a photograph to kannis.tsui@bhs.edu.hk

At BHS we value the importance of developing the ‘whole’ child and this means valuing their achievement and interests outside of school.  If your child has achieved something special, we would be happy to share that with the BHS community through this newsletter and through our Facebook page.  Please email details and a photograph to kannis.tsui@bhs.edu.hk

August 24 – Jayden Wang (1P) has been practicing taekwondo for a year and has been working very hard at it. He passed his recent exam and is now a green-blue belt as certified by the Korea Taekwondo Association. Well done Jayden!

September 4 –  Nicole Koo (5H) representing Fairview Park Country Club, participated in Hong Kong Tennis Association Junior C team, against United Services Recreational Club.  She won her first and decisive single match (6-3) for the team.  She tried very hard to stay calm and learnt not to give up during the match.  She started learning tennis since she was 4 years old and has been improving ever since. Keep it up Nicole!

September 7 – Chun Hei Lau (1P) participated in the “Music Sharing 2019”.  As the youngest performer, he performed two songs on the piano very successfully on stage. Throughout the music show, he gained confidence and valuable stage experience. Keep it up Chun Hei!

September 8 – Tin Hang Ng (6P), Madan Chhetri (6D) and Alex Lam (6P) have won their first champion of the baseball season. Tin Hang has been playing baseball since Y1, Alex and Madan joined the team earlier this year. The Kaakiro Cup tournament started in mid-August but got delayed twice because of the weather. They competed against another five teams under adverse weather conditions and won the Championship. What a great start of the school year and league season. Well done boys!

September 9 – Kingsley Chan (2K) prepared some mooncakes for his family for the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival. He enjoyed the process so much and especially the mooncake that he had baked all by himself. Good job Kingsley!
