PE Monthly Update #10

Unit 6 Games – Handball

The Year Ones have been learning a modified version of handball where the focus has been on attacking, defending, blocking, goal keeping and the use of space. In our last few PMP sessions they will also be using these skills in a modified version of korfball.

PMP

Thanks to the parents who helped run the programme throughout this year. Your help has been very beneficial to the students and to the running of the programme. Next year PMP will change into a new programme called FMS (Fundamental Movement Skills). The FMS programme involves learning skills that involve different body parts such as feet, legs, trunk, head, arms and hands. These skills are the “building blocks” for more complex and specialised skills that students will need throughout their lives to competently participate in different games, sports and recreational activities.

Unit 6 Games – Football

The Year Twos have been playing modified games of football. The focus in the lessons has been on team work, attacking and defending. They have learnt the basic rules of football.

PMP

Thanks to all the parents who have helped with PMP over the last two years with the Year 2s. Your help is greatly appreciated and has been beneficial to the students and to the running of the programme.

 Unit  6 Games

The Year 3s have been looking at invasion games by playing a variety of playground games. Each game has focussed on the skills needed when defending and attacking. They have been introduced to the idea of central/middle players and the skills needed when playing in that position.

Unit 6 Movement Composition – Dance

With their class teachers this unit has focussed on dance. They have learnt the importance of moving in time with music. They have copied and created their own dance moves with an emphasis on rhythm.

Unit 6 Health Related Fitness

For Unit 6 the Year Fours have been looking at health and fitness. They have researched various exercises and look at the benefits on doing these exercises. They looked at the positive and negative impact that technology can have on their own health and fitness.

Unit 6 – Individual Pursuits -swimming

The Year Four swimming programme has been disrupted by the unfortunate weather we have had the last few weeks. They had their first lesson this week where the focus was on stroke development and confidence in the water.

Unit 6 Individual Pursuits – Athletics

This unit has been linked to their previous class unit on energy. They have looked at anaerobic and aerobic energy and how it can be used when we are running, jumping and throwing.

Unit 6 – Individual Pursuits -swimming

The Year Five swimming programme has been disrupted by the unfortunate weather we have had the last few weeks. The Year 5s have had two lessons and the remaining session the focus will be on stroke development and improvement when performing the four basic strokes.

Unit 6 Invasion Games

The Year Sixes have been playing sports for their last unit. These sports have been sports and games that they played throughout their Six Years at Beacon Hill. It has been a chance to remind them of the rules and how to work on tactics and team work.

Unit 6 Movement Composition – Dance

As part of their production the students have been looking at how dance can be an important element of a production. They have looked at how dance can enhance the story and how to create dance moves which can also tell a story.
