PE Monthly Update #8

Unit 5  – Individual Pursuits -Athletics

The new individual pursuits unit will focus on athletics. The Year Ones will explore different ways of running, jumping and throwing and will look at how to use their body properly when running, jumping and throwing.

Thanks to the parents who have volunteered to help run the programme in the third term. This term will focus on the fundamental skills needed in P.E. One of the stations will be a football station and this will focus solely on game knowledge and skills.

Unit 5 Movement Composition – Gymnastics

The Year Twos have started their unit based around gymnastics. They will look at how to make their movements more aesthetic and how to put a series of movements together to make a sequence.

 Unit 5 Invasion Games – Gaelic Football

During this unit the focus will be on using our hands and feet when playing gaelic football. The students will inquire into how we can use our hands and feet to travel with a ball, how to pass and how to shoot. The Year 3s will use the skills learnt in small sided modified games.

Unit 5 Invasion Games – Hockey

With their class teachers they have started a unit on hockey. They will learn the basic skills of hockey – ball control, dribbling, passing, stick control and shooting and will use these skills in small sided games.

Unit  5 striking and fielding – cricket

The Year Fours have started their cricket unit where the focus has been on batting and fielding. They have played small sided games where they have looked at how to score runs in the game of cricket. This week they were introduced to the concept of bowling in cricket.

Unit 5 invasion games -playground games

With their class teachers they have been looking at playground games. The focus has been on how to attack and defend as an individual or as a team. By learning the skills of defending and attacking in modified games they will hopefully transfer their knowledge onto more traditional games.

Unit 5 invasion games – hockey

The Year Fives have started a new invasion game where the focus is on hockey. They have started the unit by playing small sided games and have looked at the rules of hockey.

Unit 5 Health and Fitness

With their class teachers they have been doing a health and fitness unit where the focus will be on how to create their own fitness routines. They will look at the reasons behind creating a fitness routine.

Unit 5 Adventure Challenge

The Year 6s adventure challenge is split into two parts. The first part of the unit has looked at cooperation games and the skills needed to play those games. The second half will look at the sport of orienteering.

Unit 5 – Health and Fitness

With their class teachers they have started a new unit on health and fitness. The emphasis will be on the importance of exercise and how to look after their bodies.

Well done to Hena (5D), Nathelie (5D), Sera (5F) and Yi Wing (5D) for their outstanding results in the All Hong Kong Inter-Primary Schools Gymnastics Competition, Girls C Grade competition. The team finished 3rd place in the Vault, 5th place in the Floor Exercise and were ranked 5th overall!

Congratulations to Poppy (6Y) who recently finished third in the Just Climb climbing competition.

Well done to Vien (6H) who recently competed in her first ever fencing competition (2018 Fencing Doubles Competition, SAMS 2018). She competed against some very experienced girls and has gained a lot from the experience. Good luck for her upcoming competition!
