PE Monthly Update #2

Unit 2 – Movement Composition – Gymnastics

This week the Year 1s have started a new movement composition (gymnastics) unit. They started by exploring different ways of travelling and were introduced to three important gymnastics shapes – star, straight and tuck. Throughout this unit we will work on jumping, moving, rolling and balance.

 

Unit 2 Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS)

The focus for the Year Ones has been on establishing the rules and routines of FMS. Our stations have looked at body and object control, balance, game readiness, eye tracking, locomotion and balance. Thanks to the parents who have volunteered to help run the programme. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Unit 2 Adventure Challenge

The Year Twos have started their new adventure challenge. During this unit the focus will be on team work especially cooperation and team work. They will work in teams and try to complete different challenges.

 

Unit 2 Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS)

The focus for the Year Twos during their FMS sessions has been on control. They have looked at how to control an object using their hands and also controlling their body when moving. The other stations have focussed on balance, eye tracking, game readiness, memory and locomotive. Thanks to the parents who have volunteered to help run the programme. Unit 2 Adventure Challenge

This week the Year 3s have started their new adventure challenge unit. The focus will be on communication and how we can communicate during games and sports. There will be a focus on verbal and non-verbal communication.

Unit 2 Movement Composition (Dance)

With their class teachers they have been looking at how to create sequences linked to music and dance with a dance specialist. They will continue to work on this unit and will explore how they can communicate through dance and movement.

Unit 2 Games – Basketball

The Year Fours have started a new invasion games unit. They will be playing modified games of basketball with a focus on attacking, defending and passing. They will look at the links between basketball attacking and defending and other sports.

 

Unit 2 Individual Pursuits – Athletics

With their class teachers the focus will be on athletics with an emphasis on running, jumping and throwing. They will play a variety of games to enhance their running, jumping and throwing skills.

Unit 2 Invasion Games -Rugby

During this games unit the focus will be on strategies for attacking and defending. They will compare how to defend in rugby with other sports and look at key similarities between rugby and other invasion games. 

 

Unit 2 Individual Pursuits – Swimming

The Year 5 swimming programme will start after mid-term break. The students will be taught by qualified coaches from ESF Ed Services. Depending on the swimming level of your child the focus will be on the following:

  • achieve confidence and mobility in the water
  • extend water confidence and water skills, to introduce stroke technique on front crawl and backstroke
  • improve stroke technique on front crawl and backstroke, to introduce breaststroke, to extend water skills
  • improve stroke technique on front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke, to introduce butterfly, and to extend water and diving skills
  • improve stroke technique, to extend water and diving skills
  • introduce a variety of aquatic activities

Unit 2 Movement Composition (Dance)

During this unit the focus will be on looking at creating dance movements and sequences to different styles of music. They will work collaboratively to create their own dances.

Unit 2 Individual Pursuits – Swimming

The Year 6 swimming programme will start after mid-term break. The students will be taught by qualified coaches from ESF Ed Services. Depending on the swimming level of your child the focus will be on the following:

  • achieve confidence and mobility in the water
