PE Monthly Update #5

Year 1 Movement Composition – Gymnastics

The Year Ones have just finished their gymnastics unit. The focus was on introducing the three main shapes (tuck, star and straight) of gymnastics. They have used those shapes when travelling, rolling, jumping and balancing.

Year 1 Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS)

Thanks to the parents who have volunteered to help run the programme during the second term. Your help is greatly appreciated. This month we have introduced the fundamental skills of hand eye coordination, control (using your feet) and swinging.

Year 2 Movement Composition – Dance

The Year 2s have just finished their dance unit. During this unit they copied dance steps and look at possible ways to set up a dance. Their last lesson focussed on creating their own dance moves as a group.

Year 3 Games – Tennis

The Year 3s have been learning the skills of tennis with a focus on ball control and accuracy when hitting. They have progressed to playing modified games with a partner. They finished the unit by playing a tennis/rounders combination game.

Year 3 Individual Pursuits – Athletics

With their class teachers this unit focussed on inquiring into how they can improve when running, jumping and throwing.

Year 4 Games -Badminton

Thus unit has focussed on developing their badminton skills especially serving and overhead shot. They have played modified badminton games (singles and doubles).

Year 4 Adventure Challenge

With their class teachers this unit focussed on team work and the skills associated with making a team successful. They have enhanced their communication and cooperation skills throughout the unit.

Year 5 Movement Composition – Gymnastics

The Year 5s have been working on creating gymnastics sequences and looking at the connection between gymnastics and other sports. They finished their unit by performing sequences and routines on various apparatus.

Year 5 Games – Tennis

With their class teachers, the focus has been on enhancing their tennis skills and using the forehand and backhand stroke in modified games.

Year 6 Invasion Games – Handball

The Year 6s have been introduced to the game of handball. The focus was on attacking and defending when playing a game. They have also been introduced to the concept of solo taxonomy where they have rated themselves against a set objective and looked at improving their skills.

Year 6 Badminton

With their class teachers they have been enhancing their badminton skills. They have learnt the rules of badminton and looked at ways of improving their game sense and skills.
