A short but busy week for the Year 1 which has seen them starting their class maker sessions where they tried creating a money wallet; visiting the theatre to see a production about Elmer the Elephant and completing some great independent writing. For the teachers, it has really been a week of noticing how settled, confident and independent many of our students have become.

Cooking at Home
Henry in 1P did a great job of working with his sister to make some delicious cookies.

If your child has the opportunity to engage in any type of cooking at home please email pictures to your child’s class teacher. We always love seeing children taking action at home!

How the World Works

Central Idea:  People explore the properties of materials to help them design and make.

The classes will continue exploring the ways we can use different materials and begin exploring their different properties.  We will be building vocabulary and looking closely at everyday objects.Image result for properties of materials

mathsNext week we will begin a unit exploring ways of collecting and organising data. We will be using our questioning skills to gather information about classmates and looking at ways to tally and record responses in simple tables.

Mathletics: – There are now some more activities open.  Please enjoy supporting your child with these tasks.  If your child is not yet logging onto Mathletics independently please support them to do so.

Please help the children to complete the Mathletics tasks that have been assigned to your child. The children can also enjoy Maths Live and play other children live across the world.

Next week we will continue looking at non-fiction books connected to our unit of inquiry and begin to practise reading for information and knowing which are the important or main bits of the text.

Our work on scientific language will continue as children practise using the new vocabulary to complete some descriptive writing.

Unit  5 Phonics:

The phonemes for this unit are: ch, sh, th, wh

The camera words for this unit are: what, going, give, like, do, says

Please support your children in learning to read and write the camera words from unit 1, 2, 3 and 4.  When you are playing the suggested phonic games please use the letter sounds rather than say the name the letters of the alphabet.  If you need guidance about how to pronounce the letter sounds this link should help you  http://www.getreadingright.com.au/phoneme-pronunciation/

Due to Monday being a public holiday there was no assembly.
