Some important things to do and remember:

End of day arrangements

Please ensure that you inform the school office and the class teachers if there are any changes to the home time pick up or school bus arrangements. This should be done via email before 12:00 on the day of the change.

Snacks and lunch

Please note that the children will be eating lunch at school from Friday the 23rd of August onwards and that all morning snacks and lunches need to be provided in a named reusable container.

Do not send extra drinks in cartons as the children will have plenty of time and access to their water bottles throughout the day.

Snacks and lunches put in ziplock bags or not in containers easily get lost and damaged resulting in no snack or lunch for those students.

DCK catering will be providing lunches from the 2nd of September for those that have pre-ordered.

Meet the teacher

Meet the teacher evening is on the evening of Wednesday the 28th of August. At 5pm the PTA will be providing a wine and cheese tasting in the staff room for all new BHS parents to provide you with the opportunity to meet other parents and reacquaint yourselves with the BHS staff.

Meeting the teacher will start in the school hall at 6pm, followed by time to meet the class teacher in the classroom.

Hats

It is BHS policy that children wear hats for all outdoor play and PE times. Hats should come to school everyday. They need to be clearly named.

Names in all shoes and clothing

You need to add name labels to all uniform including shoes. Children get very upset and confused if they cannot find their belongings.

Bedtime Routines

As we enter our first full days of school it becomes increasingly important to ensure that the children get between 10-12 hours sleep each night. Late nights and a lack of sleep will have a huge negative impact on your child’s ability to learn and have a productive day at school.

Library Bags

The children will have their first opportunity next week to borrow books from the library. Please ensure that they have their library book bags with them on their library days.

1G- Thursday

1L- Tuesday

1P- Wednesday

As we moved into our second week of the school year the children have had an opportunity to become acquainted with all their class mates as well as having successfully completed their first lunch at school. New friendships have been blossoming, with old ones being reignited. The children settled nicely into their school routines and have been having a huge amount of fun exploring the different resources in their classrooms and shared areas.

Check out some of this week’s action in year 1.

In the coming week we will be continuing to help the children understand and create the rules and routines for school. We will also continue to support them in making new friends and encouraging everyone to explore the different resources in our classrooms and shared areas.

The children will also start tuning into their first Unit of Inquiry.

In the upcoming weeks the children will start their Who We Are unit of inquiry and be investigating social skills and their interactions with others.

They will be focusing on the Central ideas:

We connect with each other to create learning communities.

maths

The children have been playing with numbers this week and really getting a sense of how big or small a number is.  They will be continuing next week with developing their number sense through games, rhymes and stories.  Help your child identify where they see numbers in their daily lives.

In language this week, we have been focusing on speaking and listening.  We are encouraging the children to use their words and to speak in full sentences.  They will continue next week building on their language through learning prepositions such as on, under, above, in front of, beside etc.

The children have enjoyed sharing many stories around the theme of Friendships this week.  We will continue to share stories and books which helps children understand friendship in different contexts.  The children have also enjoyed choosing their own books to share with a buddy.

Golden Book awards are given to individual children to celebrate something great they have achieved. The certificates are presented in a weekly whole school assembly.

As the year 1 children are still very much settling in they will not attend this assembly for a few weeks. We will inform you of when they do and who received the award from each class.
