Year 3 Update Week 1

Image result for welcome back clipartWhat a wonderful start to the Year 3! The children have been brimming with excitement and have been especially excited about catching up with their friends, working in their new classes and with their new teachers.

Stories of adventures from holidays have been exchanged, new routines navigated and expectations outlined in anticipation for the upcoming school year.

Spending time with our BHS friends has been a highlight whether we have been eating, playing games or just simply reading.

Once again we have been amazed by their grit, humour, maturity and determination at what is, as us teachers keep reminding ourselves, just the start of year 3.

Welcome back!

Central Idea:

Different approaches to collaboration influence the productivity of groups

The children will be inquiring into:

Shared goals in group situations (connection)

Skills and behaviour that support collaboration (responsibility)

The impact of their behaviour on a shared goal (reflection)

Next week the children will begin to unpack the central idea and take part in a fun collaborative pre-assessment.

The children have been demonstrating different ways to show their understanding of number through written form, standard form, expanded form and through pictures. Next week we will begin to explore the number system by ordering, comparing and renaming numbers.

This week the children had lots of fun talking about all the wonderful things they did over the summer break and had the chance to write an unaided recount of their summer holiday.

Next week, the children will focus on the key features of a recount and explore the past tense.

Reading

Year 3 will read books from Big Universe on a Monday and Friday. They will borrow home readers on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

More information will be shared at Meet the Teacher.

There was no Golden Book this week.
