Year 3 Update Week 18

The Year 3 team wish you a HAPPY NEW YEAR!
We have thoroughly enjoyed listening to the children’s recounts of their wonderful Christmas Holidays.

Central Idea:

The interaction between body systems helps us to keep healthy and survive

The children will be inquiring into:

How the body systems work (function)

Interdependence and independence between body systems (connection)

Impact of lifestyle choices on the body systems (responsibility)

 

The children have chosen a body system to inquire into. They will start their research next week. Year 3 are also learning with Mr Lowe; they are using technology to enhance their understanding of body systems.

 

Fractions are ways of representing parts of a whole

Lines of Inquiry

  • The equal nature of fractions
  • Equivalent fractions
  • Fractional Patterns

The children are exploring what a fraction is and how we compare and order fractions (form).

They are also investigating how we use fractions in our lives and how fractions are related to division (connection).

 

Reading

Determining Importance 

The children are reading with a question in mind and selecting key vocabulary as

well as paraphrasing their findings.

Writing

Writing to Describe 

The children are writing reports to show their understanding of the

body systems. They are beginning to use technical language and are

benefiting from the additional support of Ms Jeves.

 

Please check with your child to see if they have received a Golden Book award.

Your child now has a reading eggs username and password. Please encourage them to use this at home as well as or instead of big universe. Their usernames and passwords are stuck in their diaries.

A reminder that on a Monday and Friday, the children will read from Big Universe/Reading Eggs and borrow home readers on Tuesday,Wednesday and Thursday. 
 
 

Mathletics passwords are in your child’s diary. The children should check their accounts regularly and complete any assigned tasks. If they have completed all tasks then they can enjoy LIVE mathletics. 

 
Mandarin – All children are encouraged to take a reading book home on the days when they have Mandarin lesson
