We are also looking for various materials to help with creating the games. Please send them in with your child by Tuesday 13th March.

HK Forest Adventures Trip

To enhance the construction experiences we will provide in school we have organised a visit to the HK Forest Adventures.  This is an opportunity for our students to design and build on a larger scale using a range of construction materials and tools led by experts.

Dates of the trip

Class 4L – Wed 14th March
Class 4W – Thurs 15th March

We will need to leave school at 8:45 am.  Please ensure your child is punctual on that day.  We will return in time for the end of the school day.

Your child will need:

  • PE Kit and rain coat
  • Snack, lunch and water bottle
  • Hat, sunscreen and mosquito repellant

DeliFresh has been cancelled for the day of your trip.

Y5 Market Day
Students will have the opportunity to visit the Y5 Market Day on Friday 16th March. This is part of Y5’s Big Business unit and different groups will be selling handmade goods including toys, cakes, drinks, stationery and many more! Students can bring some money (we suggest around $80 in twenty dollar bills) to buy some handmade crafts.

How we organise ourselves

Central Idea

The design and construction of structures reflects their purpose.

Lines of Inquiry

An inquiry into…

  • Designers use and reflect on their plans in order to be successful (REFLECTION)
  • The skills and knowledge needed to build structures (CAUSATION)
  • How purpose affects the design of structures. (CONNECTION)

Next week we will be focusing on the planning and creating of games for the International Food Fair! As they will be in charge of running the games that they create, there will also be discussions around rules and regulations of each game and role-plays to help them practise for Food Fair. Students will also be starting their next Unit of Inquiry into How the World Works.

Number Maths: Fractions

Central Idea

Fractions and decimals are ways of representing whole part relationships

Lines of Inquiry

An inquiry into:

  • Constructing and representing equal parts of a whole
  • Identifying, ordering and describing fractions using mathematical language
  • Understanding the relationship between fractions and decimals

Next week, students will begin to tune into this new Math unit on fractions.

Writing to Entertain
Next week, students will be creating posters to advertise the games they will have created for the International Food Fair. They will be thinking about their purpose, intended audience and how they can use colour and the use of images to support text.

No Golden Books were awarded this week.
We enjoyed 3A’s class assembly this Monday as the performance was postponed because of the school closure.

Year 4 Home Learning 09.03.18
DRAMA                     MONEY
We are finally going back to the Home Learning routine from the beginning of the school year. Students will be given two themes and they may choose one to respond to. The new Home Learning choices have been explained to the children and they are already buzzing with creative and imaginative ideas! Here are a selection of ideas to use as a prompt if your child is struggling to get started.

Due date: Wednesday 21st March

Spelling

The children have a list of words they need to learn. They should practise these at home in preparation for “buddy spelling tests” (the children testing each other) in class next week.

Reading
The children have been given their Home Reading Journals and are expected to read for 20 minutes per day at their given comprehension age. Children will record the title of their book in their journal. Please discuss your child’s reading and leave a comment in the journal so that they can change their book.
To support their reading development, please make sure of the following:
  • Home reading should be fun not a chore.
  • Keep the timing short, find a comfy, quiet space and have a chat about what your child is reading. This really helps to develop their comprehension skills.
  • There is information about comprehension at the beginning of the journal, which you can use to help guide your discussion with your child. Please also refer to information your class teacher has sent out to you about how to help your child at home.

Mathematics
All children should aim to spend 30 minutes per week completing their assigned Mathletics tasks and/or practising their times tables.

Mandarin (All children are encouraged to take a reading book home on the days when they have Mandarin lessons.)
