Five ways to Well-being Logo Competition
This week we have launched our Student Council logo competition for the 5 Ways to Well Being. You are challenged to design a logo for one of the 5 ways. BHS Green Book Week
This exciting annual event will be here soon so start thinking of your book character costume ideas! This year we are combining our love of reading with our love for protecting the environment so expect lots of fun activities with a joint reading and environmental theme! More details will follow soon.
Action in the PYP at BHS
It has been great celebrating the talents and achievements of our students through the ’Student Achievement’ section in the newsletter. We would like to do something similar with Student Action. Action in the PYP is when students are inspired through their learning and their experiences to make a difference to their lives or the community connected to real life issues and opportunities. We would like to celebrate our students taking action outside of school.

There are different types of Action. We would like to start with a focus on Participation. See below for a definition and examples

Maths
We have continued our work with fractions this week and the children have undertaken some problem-solving activities based on the ideas we learned from our work with Peter Sullivan last year. The children have tackled open-ended challenges such as the best ways to share 6 fruit roll-ups fairly between 8 children. There have been lots of different possible solutions shared and this has also prepared us nicely for our upcoming work on equivalent fractions.
English
We have continued developing our narrative writing this week. We are continuing to imitate the style of authors whose writing we really admire in order to create our own quality sentences. This week we have watched the animated short film “The Clocktower” and started writing a narrative to accompany this.
U.O.I
This week, our sessions with Mr. Lowe have continued and all of the groups are making great progress with their games for the International Food Fair on 29th March. Most groups have now finished the base of their game and are focused on adding the details. We are continuing to refer to the Design Thinking process and most groups are prototyping (prototype) and generating new ideas (ideate) at the moment.

Over the coming week, the students will be putting the finishing touches to the first version of their games before beginning the process of testing and adapting it, before final decorations are added.

Comprehension Strategies: Making Connections
Next week, the children will continue to look at making connections and how readers make links between the text and what they already know. There are three kinds of connections children can make when they read; text to self connections, text to text connections and text to world connections.

Mathematics
All children should aim to spend 30 minutes per week completing their assigned Mathletics tasks and/or practising their times tables.

All children are encouraged to take a reading book home on the days when they have Mandarin lessons.
