Please support our stray friends.

There is a fun, family event happening this Sunday 26th November. Some of our students have continued to visit Sai Kung Stray Friends after the initial trip during UOI1. Dylan arrived at school on Monday morning with posters from SKSF, after visiting them last weekend. Please help to promote this amazing cause,

Stationery

It has been noted that many children are without the correct equipment and therefore certain lessons are challenging for them. In Year 6 we ask students to bring their own stationary kits to school. As leaners they are expected to be organised, prepared, responsible and Independent, this is good practice for when they go to Secondary School. From discussions with the children many of them are missing, calculators (not scientific), geometry sets, 30cm rulers, scissors and headphones (a cheap set can be purchased for around 15HKD). Please talk to your child about their stationery needs.

Healthy Living at BHS
We promote healthy living at BHS and therefore children should only bring water to school. Please do not send milk drinks, sugary drinks or any other kind of drink. We have water fountains and taps where students can refill their (BHS) water bottles throughout the day.

A visit from Mr and Mrs Hoskins.
Children in 6H were lucky to get a visit from Mr Hoskins’ parents. The children had lots of interesting questions for Alan and Lesley and enjoyed their company. Students in 6H created poems all about Wales and performed them in front of the class to help Alan and Lesley feel welcome at Beacon Hill.

Chamber Choir Performance
During Monday’s assembly we were treated to a performance by the one and only BHS chamber choir. They sang songs in a beautiful manner and even remembered to throw in dance move or two along the way.
Minecraft Champions
Children from Year 6 were involved in an ESF 50th Anniversary competition a few weeks ago and emerged as champions. Here they are showing off their medals. Well done guys!
Football Recap
Speak to our famous footballers about their recent games and tournaments to find out how they got on.
Year 6 Action Board – Global Goals

In September 2015, 193 world leaders agreed to 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development. If these Goals are completed, it would mean an end to extreme poverty, inequality and climate change by 2030.

Our governments have a plan to save our planet…it’s our job to make sure they stick to it.

The Global Goals are only going to work if we fight for them and you can’t fight for your rights if you don’t know what they are. We believe the Goals are only going to be completed if we can make them famous.

In Year 6 we are keeping track of all the amazing Action happening at school and at home.

Transdisciplinary Theme: Sharing the Planet

Central Idea- Reaching a resolution during periods of conflict is influenced by the actions and reactions of all involved.

Lines of Inquiry  – We will inquire into…

  1. Causes of conflict (causation, perspective)
  2. Conflict resolution and management (responsibility)
  3. Our responsibility as a member of a community. (Responsibility)

It was a busy week creating and sharing this week in Year 6. Our students worked against the clock to get their work together in order to share their learning to complete this UOI. Check out the photos below of us making and sharing.

Central Idea

We use the same rules for the computation of decimal fractions as for whole numbers

Number Maths – We will be investigating different strategies used to solve decimal multiplication problems as well as identifying the important link multiplication and division have in maths

The students have created their final expositions this week and have worked hard to self assess their own work, aiming to hit all of the success criteria. Ask your children how they did in completing this English unit.

Spelling : The children should be tested on their words at home 3 times per week ready for our buddy test on Friday.  Any words that the children spell incorrectly during the buddy test on Friday will get carried over to next week’s ‘Words I need to learn…’  All children need to remember to bring in their Spelling Journals each day.

Reading : Each child should be reading throughout the week. Don’t forget to think about your weekly reflection for your Reading Journals!
