WELCOME TO UPPER PRIMARY!
What a fantastic start to Year 4 this week has been. We have been really impressed with the children’s enthusiasm for learning, their eagerness to share their ideas and listen to others and with their self-organisation.
In our Unit of Inquiry the children have begun to tune in to this unit by thinking of the things they value about their school. They have also been exploring the Central Idea and what this means to them.
In Maths this week, we have been focusing on setting the tone for our Maths lessons and creating a positive learning environment. We have used different fun learning engagements to explore how we all have the potential to do well in Maths, how communication is important in Maths and why mistakes are ok.
The children have shown great thinking and communication skills when sharing their ideas in our class discussions. They have also shown active listening skills and good manners when listening to Mr Harrison in the first assembly of the year, when meeting the new Vice Principal, Mr Thompson, and when talking to Mr Pheasant who will be looking after Year 4 this year.
With such fantastic attitudes and behaviour, we know we are going to have a great year!

Text Type: Poetry
In this unit the children will be exploring how poetry serves a variety of social purposes, e.g. to entertain, to express feelings, to reflect on experiences/people/events, to create mental images, or to be read aloud. We have begun this by looking at the poem, ‘The Voice’ by Shel Silverstein.
Next week the children will be writing their own poems about their beliefs and values using the kenning structure.
The Voice
homelearning
Our home learning will begin on Monday 29th August. We are currently assessing students’ spelling, etc. which will form the basis of their home learning. This also gives us the opportunity to explain the home learning expectations of Y4 to you in the Meet the Teacher Evening on Tuesday 30th August.
