Year 5 have had a busy week with lots of trips out of school. Students enjoyed the interactive learning experiences at LEAP, considering the health and social implications of smoking.

We were lucky with the weather and enjoyed a lovely day at Hong Kong Park exploring the park, gardens and museums for different examples of artwork and artistic techniques. Students enjoyed sketching some of the features and designs they saw, considering the seven elements of art.

Those children involved in the choir, orchestra and ukulele were busy rehearsing for the summer concert and put on a fantastic performance on Thursday evening.

Year 5 students thoroughly enjoyed seeing the Year 6 Exhibitions and were very impressed by all their hard work. The children had the opportunity to ask questions and take notes, which will support them next year when it will be their turn!

Central Idea:

Arts are used to express messages and ideas

Lines of Inquiry:

  1. The tools and techniques artists use (form)
  2. How messages are interpreted and conveyed (perspective)
  3. How art influences others (reflection)
Perspective Reflection Form
We will understand that artists draw on different experiences and thoughts when creating their work. We will understand that artists use a range and mix of artistic elements to express their ideas. We will understand that there are different elements of art which work together to create a work of art.

In our Identity unit children have been learning about different famous artists including Picasso, Warhol, Hepworth and Kusama. Through their artist study, students explored the artist’s backgrounds, how they discovered their talents, what particular styles and techniques they adopted and what their major influences were. Students then tried to adopt some of these styles and techniques in their own pieces of work, whilst linking ideas to the seven elements of art. Students have been asked to think about what they want their piece to mean and portray.

homelearning

Chose an artist whose work you are interested in. It could be someone you have studied in school or somebody completely different. Try to copy some of the techniques and styles they use to produce your own piece of art. Try to use it as a way of expressing yourself and think about what you want people to think about when they look at your piece.

School will be closed Monday 29th May and Tuesday 30th May.
