Swimming caps, flip flops/ crocs or other shoes suitable to wear once in the pool area, towels, Swimming suits or costumes (no bikinis), goggles are optional, a waterproof bag separate from their school backpacks.

Children will wear PE clothes for Thursdays swimming sessions.

Many of the children had a great time at the PTA quiz they really enjoyed the snacks and thought that the questions were a little easier. The results will be revealed next week, so lets hope for some year 5 winners.

We have enjoyed exploring sculpture as a visual art form. We found it very calming and thought provoking as we worked with our bars of soap.

We have started revisiting some areas of maths which were challenging the first time round. 5P have been thinking about their multiplication strategies, 5Y using whole and decimals numbers when working with area and perimeter, 5M have been working on ways to calculate areas and perimeter.

Our focus on descriptive writing has continued as we explored alternative words for many simple yet overused adjectives.

Central Idea:

Arts are used to express messages and ideas

Lines of Inquiry:

  1. The tools and techniques artists use (form)
  2. How messages are interpreted and conveyed (perspective)
  3. How art influences others (reflection)
Perspective Reflection Form
We will understand that artists draw on different experiences and thoughts when creating their work. We will understand that artists use a range and mix of artistic elements to express their ideas. We will understand that there are different elements of art which work together to create a work of art.
We are planning on creating some art work which will be put on to the school steps. We are hoping it will reflect the unique and special qualities of all our Year 5 Students.

Please continue with your artist studies.

Chose an artist whose work you are interested in. It could be someone you have studied in school or somebody completely different. Try to copy some of the techniques and styles they use to produce your own piece of art. Try to use it as a way of expressing yourself and think about what you want people to think about when they look at your piece.

If any one has borrowed the DVD about the coming Changes unit please remember to return to Miss Chung via the class teachers.
