Dear Parents, Family and Friends,

May I wish you all a very Happy New Year! I hope you were able to have a restful time with family and friends during the Christmas holiday. I was fortunate enough to visit my mother, brother, nephew and niece in England and it was lovely to be able to spend Christmas with them. We have a short but busy time ahead of us before the Chinese New Year holiday begins.

China Day (Thursday 26th January, 2017) at BHS – For All Students

The Chinese New Year is fast approaching and we have our activities and celebrations planned in order to recognise this important time of year for many of our students and families.

On Thursday 26th January everyone in school is asked to come dressed in traditional Chinese clothes.

During the morning, the students will be experiencing a range of different activities, in mixed age groups, relating to the customs and traditions of the Chinese New Year and the Chinese culture. In the afternoon starting at 1:30pm, many of our students and the BHS Community Choir will perform in the Chinese New Year Assembly to the whole school.  At the end of the CNY assembly, there will also be an exciting lion dance sponsored by the BHS PTA. Due to limited space in the hall, this assembly is for BHS students only.

We have been very lucky in the past to have received generous donations from parents. We hope that you will continue to support us this year by donating Chinese tea, chocolate coins and Lai-See packets for the China Day activities. Please kindly remind your child to bring your donations to Room 505 (Ms Lynn’s room).
May we take this opportunity to wish you all a happy New Year of the Rooster – Kung Hei Fat Choi!

Yours sincerely

Lynn Xu – Head of Mandarin

IMPORTANT DATES

Achievement Beyond School

I received a letter from the Hong Kong Squash Centre last term notifying me of an outstanding achievement by Alyssa Ho (6F) who came 7th in the Girls Under 11 competition at the Prince Hong Kong Junior Squash Championships held last November. Well done Alyssa!

Uniform – New Shoes

At the start of this year you may recall I shared information about some BHS parents who operate a company that sells high quality shoes and offer a special discounted service to all BHS parents. Nearly half way through the school year some of you may be wishing to buy some new school shoes. Karaso has kindly agreed to donate 10% of the proceeds from sales to BHS parents, to the BHS PTA meaning you can get school shoes for your child whilst supporting the school. A special promo code needs to be used when ordering: BHSKARASO. They have an online store but you can also visit them to try out the sizes. The company is Karaso: https://www.karasoflex.com/ We have some samples available to look at outside our PTA Shop. Please note that this is an extra option available to parents and that the PTA is not able to provide assistance with any orders or questions about the shoes.

(Please note that this is an external company not affiliated to BHS or the BHS PTA).

Best wishes,

ndnn

On the last day of the first term Beacon Hill had their first ever inter house football tournament. The teams were superbly organised by their house captains and everyone displayed great sportsmanship and skills during the tournament. Well done to Xìn Xīn (confidence) 信心 who won the tournament beating Kuài Lè (happiness) 快乐 in the final one nil. Bāo Róng (inclusivity) 包容finished third and Duō Yuán (diversity) 多元 fourth.
