Mandarin Monthly Update #1

欢迎!Welcome to a new school year!

1F – Students will get to know each other and learn simple greetings in Mandarin  by participating in the first two units of Year One – “Greetings” and “Self-introduction”.

Year 2 – Students in Year Two will start to learn the names of different strokes for writing Chinese characters. They will also learn Chinese radicals and the importance of writing Chinese characters in correct stroke order.

Year 3 – Students in Year Three will start to learn the Pinyin system in Mandarin lessons. They need to practise what they have learnt at home so they will be able to read and write Pinyin independently at the end of the unit.

Year 4 – Students in Year Four will learn poems 红绿灯 and 交通歌 in Mandarin lessons. They will be using their knowledge and understanding in poetry from UOI in classrooms and making connections to Chinese poetry.

Year 5 – Students will be learning 小鸟和大树,“包”字歌,它们自己爬上来了 and 我不走了。They will practise using phrases such as 好像,已经,很/十分/非常 so that they will be able to use them confidently in their own writing.

Year 6 – Students in Year Six are learning to ask and answer questions about telephone numbers and addresses in Mandarin. They will also revisit the “Family” unit and learn how to say uncles, aunts and grandparents in Mandarin.

1W It has been so great to finally meet our new Year one children.  We have been learning simple classroom instructions in Mandarin through story books and have started our very first topic, “Numbers”.

Yr2. We have been learning the first topic “self-introduction” by combining our art talent with our mandarin skills to produce self-portraits.

Yr3. Children have been given a new Mandarin book bag with CME 1 and exercise book.  Please make sure to help them remember to bring this book bag to school everyday. We are starting to learn PinYin and have begun Chinese Made Easy Book 1

Yr4. Please help your child make sure they have their mandarin folder with them. It is the same folder they used last year. We are on 小学华文1B chapter 11 下雨了。

Yr5  We are going to use CME2 as our base along with extra worksheets as needed.  We are working on chapter 1 and children have been learning how to say their home address in Mandarin.

Yr6. We are starting 中文 6. This year we are going to focus on writing composition along with our text book.  Please assist your child when they are seeking the help at home. It would be much appreciated.
