Dear Parents,

We have had yet another busy week in school with everyone working hard and challenging themselves. Last Saturday our netball team took part in the ESF tournament at QBS/CIS. A report on this can be found later in the newsletter. I would like to thank our teachers and EAs who offer their own time to coach all our sports teams and enter them into the tournaments. We have had a very successful year so far and we could not do this without their support.

CIS Review

Last term you may remember we had visitors who came to conduct our 5 year review as part of the Council of International Schools accreditation process. The final report has arrived and you can read it via our website – http://beaconhill.edu.hk/school-evaluation-and-development/ If you have any comments please do get in touch with me. We are very proud of the progress we have made and the commendations recognised in the report. As we move forward we will address the recommendations made in our future school development plans. Thank you for your continued support which helps to make Beacon Hill School the wonderful place it is.

Class Assembly

Thank you to 3D who shared their class assembly with parents, family and school today. I was at ESF Centre this morning so I wasn’t able to watch but I did manage to see their final rehearsal yesterday afternoon and they were magnificent. They shared their amazing knowledge about ‘forces’, sang some very uplifting songs, shared some photos and video and even acted out some drama sketches for us. Well done 3D and of course thank you to Mrs Dale, Ms Chan, Ms Lau, Mr Dealino, Ms Kannis and Mr Gibson for their support.

The Great Kindness Challenge Week

ndtujmThis year we are going to participate in the ‘Great Kindness Challenge’ week. We believe we are a very caring and friendly community already but it can only be a good thing to be even more caring and friendly. In the coming couple of weeks your child will be given a checklist of 50 acts of kindness that they can try to accomplish during this special week. There are no prizes for those who complete them all; but we will all feel good that people have thought about others and not just themselves. I hope you can support this at home and ensure that we continue to be a caring and friendly community all the time!

Netball

The ESF invitational netball tournament was held Saturday 9th January 2016. This was the last tournament of the netball season and the last time the year 6 BHS students would represent BHS.

The BHS team was Aayesha Mahbubani (C), Angela Chen (GA) , Courteney Kim (WA) , Ellie Chow (WD) , Janice Wan (GK) , Jessica Zhou (GD) , Manika Mohinani (GS) , Michelle Tam (WD) and Milly Okuda (WA). BHS played 4 games against KJS, QBS, Peak and Glenealy B. BHS won their game against Glenealy B, lost by one point to KJS. Peak and KJS games were tough and those 2 teams went on to be in the top 4 schools of the tournament.

Being the last game of the season the girls really demonstrated an excellent sense of team work and skill. Their defence was the best we’ve seen all term and there was real determination on court. Well done to our shooters as well who have improved game after game. Overall the girls played brilliantly and have shown such commitment to the game since August, this is evident in how much they have all improved over the last few months. Thank you to all the girls involved in netball club for their hard work and training and well done again for playing so well in the tournament.
