Dear Parents,

Our main fundraiser of the year, the International Food Fair, begins at 5pm tonight. Please come along and join in the fun. We are hopeful that the weather will be kind to us.
Congratulations to Mr Greene and his wife Shannon who are the proud parents of Marlowe who was born a week ago. Mr Greene has been a dutiful dad at home this past week on paternity leave and all being well, he will be back with 1G on Monday.
Last Friday evening ESF celebrated Jonathan Straker’s service to ESF over the last 32 years. Beacon Hill Choir set the tone for the evening by singing some beautiful songs and by donating their ‘crazy ties’ to him. Today is Jonathan’s very last day with ESF. On behalf of the BHS Family I would like to thank him for what he has done for ESF and specifically for BHS. Happy retirement Jonathan!

Also last Friday our choir performed at the Sha Tin Junior Neighbourhood Watch day and all reports were that they sang as well as ever and were great ambassadors for the school. For photos, click HERE. This week has been a very special week at BHS – our annual Green Week. Thank you to all the students and staff who have supported the many activities and events that have helped raise awareness as well as funds to support endangered animals. A special thank you to Ms King who organised the whole week with help from Ms Jeves and the Mini Green Team.

Today 4J treated us to their class assembly. The theme was based on one of their units of work, looking at the design of structures in the community, all presented as a game show! It was a great idea and the children shared their immense knowledge through ‘Fun Facts’  and ‘ Did You Knows?’ They also included acting, singing and dancing! Well done to 4J, Ms Wu, Mr Lee, Ms Barr, Ms Kannis, Mr Gibson, Ms Jeves, Ms Cassie, Mrs Fennelly and the parents for supporting their children. Today our Year 1s have been on a trip to Lions Nature Education Centre. I am sure they had a great time and were able to take their learning into the ‘real world’.

Please can I request all parents to take some time to complete the ESF Stakeholder Survey. You will have received an email. Please see further down this Newsletter for more details.

Finally, well done to all our competitors who participated in the CIS Road Race last Saturday morning. We had entrants in all age categories and although we didn’t win, we saw some strong performances from them. Thank you to Mr Teahan for organising and Mrs McLaughlin for marshalling on the day.

Next week is our final week before we break for the Easter holiday. Please remember that school closes at 12pm on Thursday 24th March.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS WHO DROP OFF AND PICK UP THEIR CHILDREN AT BHS

Gas pipes are being replaced along Ede Road and they will be working outside BHS over the next 3 to 4 weeks. We are liaising with the works manager to ensure that our school buses are able to pick up the children as normal at the end of the school day. There will be some congestion as one side of the road will be dug up but we are working to minimise this. I am requesting that parents who drive do not stop outside the school at all, but find a parking space further up Ede Road. This will hopefully help avoid any gridlock and ensure the safety of our children. Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this issue.

ESF Stakeholder Survey

Stakeholders will soon be invited by email to participate in the biennial ESF Stakeholder Survey, which is open until the 24th March 2016. Through this survey we aim to find out about the impressions that parents, staff and students have formed about the education we provide. The feedback from the survey will help us build on our strengths and inform our future planning.
A parent invite will be emailed to the primary contact parent in your family on 14th March. [If you have a child at another ESF school you will receive a separate invite by email to participate in that school’s survey].

Students in Years 5 and 6 will also receive an email inviting them to participate in the survey –  WE WILL PROVIDE TIME IN SCHOOL FOR THEM TO COMPLETE THIS.
We would be very grateful if you would spare the time to complete the survey. It’s shorter than in the past and takes about 15-20 minutes to complete (though may take a little longer if you wish to add comments in the optional comment boxes).

BHS Community Choir

This brand new choir started in January. If you would like to join, please just come along. New recruits are welcome any time – you don’t need to have any musical background; just enthusiasm. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings from 7pm in the school hall. Our next performance will be at the International Food Fair. Please click HERE for music.

Touch Rugby

IMG_5222

On Tuesday 15th March the Beacon Hill girls touch team participated in the Kellett School girls touch tournament. Our first game was against NAIS and we managed a convincing two nil win with both tries being scored by Natalee. Our second game was against the eventual champions, Kellett, and we lost two nil. Our third game was a very exciting game with DBIS and we fought back to draw 1 all with Aayesha scoring an amazing try. This meant we had finished third in the group.

In our plate semi final we played outstanding defence and Aayesha again scored to make it 1 nil. In the plate final we faced a strong KJS team and neither team were able to score in the 10 minute playing time. It came down to drop off and golden try. It was so close it had to be 3 players against 3 players and it was KJS who scored the winning try.

Well done to the team! Over the two touch tournaments this season the girls only lost one game in the normal 10 minutes.

Tag Rugby

On Wednesday 16th March the tag rugby team played in the annual ESF tag rugby tournament. Our first game was against a strong KJS team and we lost 9-3. We realised our mistakes and what we needed to do and managed a great 2 all draw against a strong Kellett team. Our next game against DBIS we scored a late try to equalise and we drew 4 all. Our last game was our best as we scored a number of great tries in a 10-3 win over RCHK. This meant we were into the bowl semi finals against Glenealy. They started strong and were up two nil in the first two minutes and then we got back into the game with two great team tries. It looked like it was going to be going into extra time but unfortunately Glenealy scored in the last second and we lost 3-2. Thanks to the parents who to support us and well done to the team as they improved with every match played. The players chose Kaden as player of the tournament. Click HERE for more photos. nl_pta
