Dear Parents,

Our main fundraiser of the year, the International Food Fair, was a huge success last Friday, thanks to all those who attended and the hard work put in by the PTA Committee and the volunteers in the weeks leading up to the event. Thank you to everyone who gave up their time and to those who made donations for the stalls or the Grand Raffle. We will let you know the final figures for the amount raised as soon as we can. For photos, please click HERE.

The Year 6 students have been getting really involved in their Exhibition work this week with support from many teachers across the school who are acting as mentors to the groups. We look forward to seeing their action and exhibition in a few weeks time.

Our annual Spring Concert on Tuesday afternoon was fabulous. The choir sang with enthusiasm and energy and the new addition of our Year 4 Ukulele players this year added another wonderful dimension to the concert. Thank you to the PTA for sponsoring the refreshments, to the Baking Club for the lemon cupcakes, to the parents, family and friends who attended, Ms Chong for accompanying on the piano and to Mrs Dale, Ms Chan, Ms Chloe and Mr Gibson for giving up their time to enable this choir to happen. For photos, please click HERE.

Year 3 Sharing this week was another wonderful showcase of student learning. What shone through to me was the wonderful experiences they have which are carefully planned by the teachers, and just the pure love of learning the children exhibit. It is clear they absolutely love coming to school! Well done to all of the children and a special thank you to the Year 3 teachers, Mrs Dale, Mr Hubbard, Ms King and Ms Chan, Ms Kamaruddin, Ms Lau, Ms Mo, Mr Gibson, Ms Yu and Mr Lowe and all of the other staff who have supported and guided the children. For photos, please click HERE.

Year 5 children have been working incredibly hard on their ‘Big Business’ unit and despite an initial cancellation of their Market Day by myself, they wrote very persuasive letters to me in order to make me change my mind – which I did! There will be more information about their Market Day nearer the time. Thank you to those parents and other professionals who gave up their time to sit on the ‘Big Business Panels’ this week to question, challenge and encourage the work of the Year 5 students.

Please can I request all parents to take some time to complete the ESF Stakeholder Survey. The deadline is the end of this week. You will have received an email. Please see further down this Newsletter for more details.

Parent Information Evenings – Another very short survey we would like parents to complete is here: http://goo.gl/forms/dAKnRjBEH3

This will take just a couple of  minutes and is designed to help us plan parent information sessions for the coming school year that more closely suit your needs. I appreciate your time with this.

We are now on holiday for the end of term break. Term 3 begins on Monday 11th April. I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a wonderful Easter holiday and thank you for your continued support.

Environment Week

Last week, BHS had Environment Week. Together with money raised from the Green Team stall at the Food Fair and activities from Green Week, BHS raised approximately $9500. Well done BHS! Half of the money raised will go to WWF to help with their conservation efforts.  The Green Team are researching other environmental organisations to see where the remainder of the money should be sent.

During Environment Week there was an endangered species art competition. From the entries submitted it is clear that BHS is full of very talented artists.  There was also a competition involving children searching for hidden animals around the school and matching them to information. Well done to all who took part. Please see below to see the entries and winners from the competitions.

During the week, the younger children were also able to complete environmental themed puzzled that the Green Team had made for them. They had a lot of fun and learned some new facts about the environment too!

Island School Redevelopment and Curriculum Roadshow

Representatives from Island School will be at BHS on Monday 25th April at 6.30pm to share information about the Island School redevelopment and their curriculum. All interested BHS parents are invited to attend.

Please add your name to the following document if you will attend the session: http://goo.gl/forms/UrbxkOL9KN
