Dear Parents,

Thank you for your assistance in making the school closure day on Tuesday as trouble-free as possible. The timing of the closure announcement couldn’t have been at a worse time of the day. As a reminder of what to do in cases of bad weather please read the information on our school website: https://www.beaconhill.edu.hk/bad-weather-procedures/ and refer to our website homepage for the latest information, in preference to telephoning school or relying on ‘Whatsapp’ group chats, which may not have accurate or official information.

Today our Year 1 children shared their learning with parents. I hope you enjoyed finding out more about what they have been learning and can continue the conversations about it at home. For photos, click HERE. Our Year 2 students enjoyed a fun excursion to Discovery Bay on Wednesday, using various means and routes to travel there. The weather was perfect and the trip was only possible due to the help of parent volunteers on the day.
Next week is the Year 6 Exhibition for parents and the community and despite losing a day of preparation due to the school closure this week, the children are keen to share with you their journey. I look forward to seeing many of you at the event.

Last week’s Book Fest 2016 was a huge success with the children taking part in lots of different book related activities and the whole school sharing their love of reading.  Each class focused on writing poetry, the best of which will soon be published online for you to read at home. Year 3 and Year 5 were also treated to poetry lessons from Hong Kong based poet Blair Reeve, who also shared his new book with the children.

Several children got involved in our competitions and prizes have been given for the most creative entries.  Our whole school book quiz was lots of fun and showed that we have so many book experts in school.  It was lovely to see children from every year group working together to answer the questions.  The library was busy as ever at lunchtimes with craft activities and storytelling.  Special thanks go to Cindy Zhou, one of 1G’s parents, for giving up her time to read to the children.

A highlight of the Book Fest was Friday’s Dress Up day, thank you so much for supporting your children in making some fantastically creative costumes.  It was really lots of fun to see all the children and staff dressed up and eagerly discussing their favourite reads.  We had a special assembly which ended with Mr Greene and Mrs McKinnon treating us to their favourite poems.  Go to the Library page on The Beacon to see slide shows showing the costumes voted by each class as the most creative and some more of our competition winners. https://thebeacon.bhs.edu.hk/course/view.php?id=7082
