Start of School Arrangements
Please note that students should not arrive at school before 8.30am. Teachers are on duty from 8.30am. Any child who arrives early cannot be supervised.
Healthy Living at BHS
We promote healthy living at BHS and therefore children should only bring water to school. Please do not send milk drinks, sugary drinks or any other kind of drink. We have water fountains and taps where students can refill their (BHS) water bottles throughout the day.

All children need a school hat and water bottle every day. Please ensure they are clearly labelled with your child’s name.

The children very much enjoyed visiting the LEAP Centre today and learned all about healthy eating and the digestive system.

The children have continued to look at place value and representing numbers.

The children have enjoyed participating in Cosmic Yoga for relaxation and well-being.

Central idea: Lifestyle choices can affect human health and well-being

Lines of inquiry:

  1. What it means to have a balanced lifestyle
  2. The choices we make affect our health
  3. Lifestyle changes

The children will continue to explore the five elements of a healthy lifestyle:

What relationships are and how they affect our health and well being.

Different relaxation activities and whether people find the same things relaxing.

Hygiene and why it is important to help them to be healthy.

Exercise and why this is important for our bodies.

How to eat a healthy and balanced diet. Why nutrition is important for our health.

Please login into The Gateway and sign the e-notice about our upcoming trip to Penfold Park. We would like some parent volunteers so please tick the appropriate box if you are able to help.

CENTRAL IDEA: We represent numbers and number relationships using the place value system

LINES OF INQUIRY:

  • Ways to present numbers
  • How we count numbers
  • The Base ten place value system
  • Odd and even numbers (pattern and function)

The children will continue to use a variety of equipment to apply place value to partition and rename three digit numbers. They will practise skip counting in 2s, 5s and 10s starting from zero.

Over the next few weeks, the children will also start to interpret data collected from fitness trackers that they will be using during the school day to count their activity.

We will continue to look at characters and settings in a story and will identify key events that take place.
Every child will be assessed on their reading within the next few weeks.
 Well done to:

homelearning
Please give your child the opportunity to explore Reading Eggs (username/password in diary).
Please be reminded that in Year 2, your child will not bring home a reading book on Tuesday or Thursday they will need to read on Reading Eggs or Big Universe. Children login and select ‘My Library’ from the top of the page. At the right hand side in the ‘Filters’ section they can select the ‘Grade Level’ of books. If the children select grade 1 and 2 this is the most appropriate reading age for them (6-8 years).

Mandarin – All children are encouraged to take a reading book home on the days when they have Mandarin lessons.
