Please note that students should not arrive at school before 8.30am. Teachers are on duty from 8.30am. Any child who arrives early cannot be supervised.
Healthy Living at BHS
We promote healthy living at BHS and therefore children should only bring water to school. Please do not send milk drinks, sugary drinks or any other kind of drink. We have water fountains and taps where students can refill their (BHS) water bottles throughout the day.
School Book Bags
Your child needs a named book bag in school to carry their reading books to and from school, this is for bothhome readers and library books. This means that the younger children will need to remember their book bag everyday, it should contain their reading book, reading journal and on library days, library books.  The reading journal is an important part of the communication between you and your child’s teacher, please remember to add a positive comment when you have read with your child.

School Uniform
Most of our Year 6s have been looking pretty good this week and have made a real effort to wear the correct school uniform and PE kit to school. May we please ensure that this continues and that they are being uniform conscientious right down to their purple socks on normal days and white socks on PE days. School bags should also be BHS backpacks and not anything different.

Deodorant
As the children are growing and changing their bodies will begin to sweat, especially in these hot summer months. Please provide your children with deodorant and remind them to keep clean and hygienic.

Transdisciplinary Theme : How we Organise Ourselves

Central Idea : Leaders influence communities to affect change.

Lines of Inquiry  – We will inquire into…

  • The traits of leadership
  • The responsibilities of leadership
  • The impact of decision making

Concepts …

Form – We will understand that leaders have a range of different characteristics.

Responsibility – We will understand that with leadership there comes responsibility

Function – We will understand the purpose and impact that leadership can have on us

Learner Profile : principled, courageous

Attitudes : commitment, integrity

The children have been working with Miss Jeves and their class teachers to come up with juicy questions that will lead their own personal inquiries into a leader of their choice. Ask you child who they plan on inquiring into.

We have also been enjoying art lessons, in preparation for the 50th celebration artwork.

Number Maths – Place Value

Central Idea – The base 10 place value system extends infinitely in two directions.

After successful investigations we moved on to explicit teaching to help plug any gaps the our knowledge.

Strand Maths – Measurement

Central Idea – Conversion of units and measurements allows us to make sense of the world we live in.

This week we have been learning about conversions and the relationships different units of measure share.

The children have self assessed their house captain speeches and synthesised their learning so that they have a better understanding of what makes a successful speech and how they can improve.

We also discussed leadership traits using lollipop sticks to ensure all of the children’s voices were heard.

Spelling : The children should be tested on their words at home 3 times per week ready for our buddy test on Friday.  Any words that the children spell incorrectly during the buddy test on Friday will get carried over to next week’s ‘Words I need to learn…’  All children need to remember to bring in their Spelling Journals each day.

Reading : Each child should be reading throughout the week. Don’t forget to think about your weekly reflection in your Reading Diaries!

Number Maths

  • Miss Younie – Mathletics
  • Mrs Fletcher – Mathletics
  • Mr Hoskins – Mathletics
  • Mr Hubbard – Mathletics

UOI

Please speak to your children about the trips to SKSF. Students should reflect on the action they have taken and think about how they can take further action to help this cause. The students can create a mind map of ideas and bring them to school next week.

Ms Lynn (Home learning #1) – Please check your google classroom for details.

Ms Yu -continue with your  research on biography of famous people   in Chinese
