Year 2 will begin pitch sessions every Thursday afternoon from Thursday 5th November through to Thursday 7th December 2015.
As 2F and 2M already wear PE kit on Thursday, there is no change for them, but 2A will need to wear their PE kit on Thursdays, too.

Library Book Bag

Please make sure your child has their book bag and library books on the correct day.

Well done to 2A for a wonderful assembly this morning. It was great for 2F and 2M to have such a wonderful introduction to our new Unit of Inquiry. We loved your artwork, singing, dancing and storytelling!

We have really enjoyed hearing about everyone’s half-term holidays. We have even tried creating and modifying one simple sentence to create a really great sentence.

e.g. I saw a kangaroo.

I saw a furry kangaroo.

I saw a furry, friendly kangaroo.

I saw a furry, friendly kangaroo in the wildlife park.

I saw a furry, friendly kangaroo leaping through the wildlife park.

We have begun looking at place value and learning to understand how the base 10 place value system is used to represent numbers and number relationships. Next week we will continue with this through the use of games, manipulatives (arrow cards, place value dice, Numicon, Dienes equipment, etc) and problem solving.

We will be continuing with our work on grammar and punctuation, with a focus on verb-noun agreement and plurals. We will continue to work on writing in correctly punctuated sentences. These skills will be reinforced through our handwriting activities and Guided Reading rotations.

Reading

Class teachers are currently assessing children’s comprehension and therefore some pupils may bring home a new colour of reader.

Spelling

The children’s next spelling test will be on Friday 6th November. If you could please make sure they are completing at least 3 activities during the week, but recording only one in their spelling journals.

Fruity Friday

Every week at Beacon Hill will be having ‘Fruity Friday’. Children are asked to bring a piece of fruit as their healthy snack. We will let you know in advance if and when PTA will be selling fruit so that your child can bring in money then.
