Tuesday 10th and Thursday 12th November 2015

Mandarin parent consultations.  Please check the Gateway for your appointment time if you have made one.

Year 2 Pitch Sessions
Year 2 will begin pitch sessions every Thursday afternoon from Thursday 5th November through to Thursday 10th December 2015.
As 2F and 2M already wear PE kit on Thursday, there is no change for them, but 2A will need to wear their PE kit on Thursdays, too.
Please remind children to bring a hat and a water bottle to school.

Library Book Bag

Please make sure your child has their book bag and library books on the correct day.

Daily Collection

Children are taken by their class teacher to the front stairs at 2:55pm daily, to allow them to leave the building in a safe manner by 3:00pm.

Jewellery

Some children have been coming to school wearing costume jewellery. Children are kindly asked to leave this at home to ensure that it does not get lost or damaged in school.

This week in year 2 we have enjoyed learning about our new Unit of Inquiry. We have started to learn about natural resources and have worked individually, in pairs and in groups to discuss our prior knowledge. A huge congratulations to 2A for winning a certificate from the learning centre. The children in 2A have borrowed more books than everyone else and we have some super confident readers.

The Diwali assembly was very bright and colourful and because we were interested in the dance, we watched some videos of dance from different cultures around the world.

We are continuing to work on place value this week and have been looking at units, tens and hundreds. As a year group we have focused on modelling, recognising and writing 3 digit num20151103_092543bers.
We have played lots of maths games e.g. give the dog a bone and we have had competitions to see who could make the largest number using a tens, unit and hundred dice.
As part of our mental maths, we have been adding tens onto a single digit number to help with our quick recall.

We will be continuing with our work on grammar and punctuation, with a focus on verb-noun agreement and plurals. We will be creating an adjective word bank to help us to create better and more interesting sentences. Also this week, we shall be checking sentences to make sure we have the correct word order and that our sentences make sense.

Reading

Class teachers are currently assessing children’s comprehension and therefore some pupils may bring home a new colour of reader.

Spelling

The children’s next spelling test will be on Friday 13th November. If you could please make sure they are completing at least 3 activities during the week, but recording only one in their spelling journals.

Fruity Friday

Every week at Beacon Hill will be having ‘Fruity Friday’. Children are asked to bring a piece of fruit as their healthy snack. We will let you know in advance if and when PTA will be selling fruit so that your child can bring in money then.
