Year 2 Update Wk 14

The student council is having a winter clothes drive. They are collecting warm clothes which they will give to Christian Action who will give them out to refugees around Hong Kong. Clothes must be in good condition. There are boxes for any donations at the school entrance.

Well done to 2G for their wonderful assembly! You shared so much of your learning with us.

This week the children started off their new unit of inquiry with a provocation. All classes held a celebration. Ask your child what the celebration was for and what they did that was related to this.

The children will be discussing the different types of celebrations they know or celebrate and why we celebrate them. We will be looking into the features of these celebrations – what we do during these celebrations. We will also be looking at how people may celebrate in different ways and how different celebrations have things in common.

Measurement involves comparing, ordering and sequencing objects and events

During this unit on measures, the children will be learning to read and write the time to the hour and half hour and recognise time on digital and analogue clocks.

The children are naming and ordering months of the year and are looking at the different seasons. Through different problem solving activities, the children are creating, identifying and recording dates of events on calendars.

The children will be continuing their work on sentence structure and letter writing by writing letters to a penpal. The children will be focusing on asking interesting questions and using adjectives to help them describe themselves.

The children are also looking at different types of poetry and using inference to try and understand what the poet is trying to tell us. The children are also trying to use inference when reading stories or looking at objects. Inference is when the children reach a conclusion on the basis of evidence and reasoning.

Continue Spelling/Phonics practice, and using Mathletics and Reading Eggs as time allows.

Please ask your child about the celebration that they had this week. What was it for? What did they do?

Year 2 will be going to Kowloon Tsai pitch every Monday afternoon from Monday 31st October until Monday 5th December. Please ensure your child wears their PE kit, has a hat and a water bottle.

As 2K will have pitch on Monday afternoons, they will visit the library on Thursday and so will need their library books and red book bags.
