Year 2 Update Wk 2

In Maths students have been showing teachers what they know in terms of place value and counting to shape future lessons. Most students have a growing knowledge of double digit numbers leading to 100, and will start to focus on numbers beyond 100. To prepare, students have been skip counting by 2s, 5s, 10s and 100s.

We have also been using dice to choose numbers to create in different ways towards 100 and beyond.

homelearning

Spelling folders went home today! Studying spelling words is new for Year 2 students, and is completed on a weekly basis. Please take a look at the folder with your child and remember to do two of the activities.

Home readers also went home this week. The procedure is to have the child read the book daily, preferably to mom or dad, then the child should retell the story including the main events and details without looking at the book. It is also good to ask your child a few questions about why they think certain things happened to build inference skills.

Meet The Teacher

Remember, Meet The Teacher is on Tuesday! We would like at least one parent from every child to attend if possible to go over some of the basics of Year 2. This is a good time to ask any general questions, but we ask that all personal questions about individual children be asked in a more confidential way. See you then!
