The Year 3 Team would like to wish all families a happy and healthy year of the Rooster.

 Cooler Weather has arrived!

With the cooler weather you are naturally wanting your child to wear more layers of clothing to school.  Please note that the correct school uniform must be worn, in particular school jumpers and P.E. jackets instead of non uniform long-sleeve tops underneath P.E. and school shirts.

We have clear expectations regarding our school uniform. Sometimes students may need to wear something different for a short period of time if they have outgrown a pair of shoes for example, but we encourage everyone to adhere to the uniform at all times. We appreciate your support in helping to ensure we maintain our strong identity and that all the children feel a sense of pride in wearing the BHS colours.

All children need a hat for break, lunch times and PE lessons. Please ensure they are clearly labelled. NO HAT, NO PLAY!

Please remember that we have a no nut policy at BHS due to some children having severe allergies. This includes peanut butter sandwiches and nuts in cookies or cakes.

The children worked up a sweat at Coastal Fitness and were given a lot of information about how to look after their bodies and use functional fitness to help them exercise. More information at the bottom of the update on the children programmes that Coastal Fitness offer every Saturday morning.  An album will be added to the BHS website with all the photos of our Wellness trip.

They enjoyed their rotations at Victoria Park and leading a fitness activity linked to a body system. It was a fantastic day and they all enjoyed being outside and being able to have their lunch in the outdoors. Ask your child to put you through your paces!
On Friday the children learnt about the values of following a nutritious diet with Mr Thompson and used their measurement skills to create a healthy treat with Ms Chung. The children are keen to do more healthy baking at home and with Chinese New Year approaching, it’s the perfect time for them to showcase their baking skills!

The interaction between body systems helps us to keep healthy and survive.

Lines of Inquiry

  1. How the body systems work (Function)
  2. Interdependence and independence between the body systems (Connection)
  3. Impact of lifestyle choices on the body systems (Responsibility)

This week the children began presenting their research to their classmates and are ready for the summative assessment next week. Ask your child about their final presentation and how they chose to present all their learning.

Multiplication and Division are related and are used to solve problems.
The children will inquire into:
  • The roles of symbols and the language of multiplication  and division
  • Mental and written strategies for multiplication and division
  • The relationship between multiplication and division

This week the children have continued to explore mental multiplication strategies.

In Strand Maths, the children were exploring the concept of capacity and will continue to inquire into measurement next week. Talk to your child about the relationship between millilitres and litres.

In Information Literacy the children have continued their work with Ms Jeves by learning about the three different types of muscles. The children used their information to create a shared explanation on google docs.

The comprehension key we have been focusing on has been determining importance. Ask your child what this means and how they can determine what is important vs interesting.
