We started off the week still buzzing from the excitement and success of market day and revealed the total profit that each group made, well done again! When one unit ends, another begins and we’re already stuck into our Energy unit. Year 5 investigated a variety of toys, instruments and objects to start thinking about the form of energy it involves and whether energy is being transferred from one form to another. This has lead to endless questions which the children are keen to inquire further.
UOI

Transdisciplinary Theme: How the world works

Central Idea: Energy exists in different forms and is generated and used in different ways.

Lines of Inquiry:

  • Transformation and transference of energy
  • Renewable and non-renewable energy
  • The ways in which we conserve energy

Our Key Concepts are:

Function (how does it work)? How do we use energy? How can energy be generated/harnessed?

Connection (how is it connected to other things)? How does our energy use impact us/our world?

We will be exploring the different forms of energy in more detail next week through video clips and note taking. As well as seeking answers to our questions through personal inquiry.

One of our Year 6 groups has asked for the following message to be sent to all our Year 5 & 6 parents:

Dear all Year 5 and 6 parents,

We are an exhibition group in 6H and have been researching health in Hong Kong. Our research has led us to finding out about stress, addiction, obesity and malnourishment.

According to the Feeding HK website, in Hong Kong alone up to 1.5 million people suffer from food insecurity, and according to , 1 in 4 children don’t receive 3 meals a day. We need your help and support to take action against this problem.

Our group wants to make a food donation to Feeding HK. Feeding HK is an organisation that gives people access to food when they cannot provide it themselves.

The food that Feeding HK will take is listed below:

  • Rice (Individual / family-sized bags)
  • Noodles (Non-instant / non- fried)
