Learning Technology Monthly Update #4

Year 1  students have been working on a selection of six iPad apps focused on exploration, problem solving and creation. We will be spending time now before the holidays focusing on using the Laptops again. Students will be navigating and exploring websites, creating artwork and solving puzzles. The focus is on getting the students to be confident at moving around the screen and between sites and apps using the touchpad and keyboard.

We would encourage students to continue practising logging into their Google accounts using the details stuck into their school diaries.

In Year 3 students are currently learning how to record screencasts and explanations using two tools, Screencastify and Explain Everything. This is a useful skill to be able to better create modern video explanations of anything they have created or discovered while online. Over the coming weeks the students will start to explore a human body systems app to see inside the various body systems.

Students will get to play with various pieces of equipment to help build their own inventions, starting with the Makey Makey kits.

Some of these will contribute towards a larger infographic they are building for their unit of inquiry. Students will also focus on visual design and how we can create a greater impact for viewers.

After this students will start to learn how to add their learning to a Zapcode and display work in augmented reality.
