Learning Technology Monthly Update #5

In Year 1 students will be practicing logging into their Google accounts on the computer. This is always difficult at the start and practice at home is appreciated. Students will be coming home with their login details in their diaries in the coming weeks.

Students in Year 2 will be learning to use Scratch on the computer to code their own simple programs and procedures. We will learn about various inputs that we can give and learn to build a program that turns these into actions on the screen. In the end we hope to build a simple game.

In Year 3 we will be starting a project to code and build a weird and wacky musical instrument. They will use Scratch on the computers in combination with the Makey Makey devices that allow us to build inventions out of everyday objects that can then control the computer.

Year 4 are just beginning a unit of inquiry around structures and architecture. During this time the students will be learning to use CAD software to build their own 3D models that we will then print on the 3D printers.

Students in Year 5 will be learning to record audio samples, sequence and compose to create their own electronic music. We will be producing a finished music piece and then uploading it to an online audio website.

Students in Year 6 have just begun creating a website using Google Sites to present their group research for their current unit of inquiry about civilisations. We will be working on more advanced skills such as embedding media and clipping videos. We hope to also have some time to look at some Virtual Reality experiences around civilisations.
