School Uniform
Most our Year 6s have been looking pretty good this week and have made a real effort to wear the correct school uniform and PE kit to school.  May we please as that this continues and that they are being uniform conscientious right down to their purple socks on normal days and white socks on PE days. School bags should also be BHS backpacks and not anything different.
Deodorant
As the children are growing and changing their bodies will begin to sweat, especially in these hot summer months. Please provide your children with deodorant and remind them to keep clean and hygienic.
Sai Kung Stray Friends Visit
We are excited to be able to offer some of our children a chance to visit Sai Kung Stray Friends, a charity helping dogs in the Sai Kung area. Ten children from each class have been offered the opportunity.  Please ask your child if they are one of the ones going, and if so, make sure you login to Gateway and complete the eNotice reply slip to give permission.
What a busy week it has been even if typhoon Hato took a day out of the week for us, we’re glad you’re all safe and well. Year 6 have continued to work incredibly hard on their house captain and/ or student council speeches. After watching a variety of inspiring speeches the children developed their thinking about what makes a good speech. They are now adding persuasive language techniques and checking their success criteria against their writing to make improvements.
We are lucky to be working with Ms. Jeves throughout this unit and she has been helping us to use the inquiry cycle to form great questions about our leader at school, Mr Harrison. The children have filtered out the helpful questions and linked them to the lines of inquiry as well as making connections to the concepts.
Year 6 have also thoroughly enjoyed the chance to take part in the leadership challenge, where they tackled a series of activities in teams. This was a an ideal opportunity to work together and demonstrate key leadership skills- we won’t say too much as 6Y will get the chance to do this on Monday!

We all thoroughly enjoyed today’s assembly all about the upcoming BHS 50th anniversary celebrations as well as celebrating Mr Harrison’s big birthday too. It was fun to learn what classroom’s were like 50 years ago!

Transdisciplinary Theme : How we Organise Ourselves

Central Idea : Leaders influence communities to affect change.

Lines of Inquiry  – We will inquire into…

  • The traits of leadership
  • The responsibilities of leadership
  • The impact of decision making

Concepts …

Form – We will understand that leaders have a range of different characteristics.

Responsibility – We will understand that with leadership there comes responsibility

Function – We will understand the purpose and impact that leadership can have on us

Learner Profile : principled, courageous

Attitudes : commitment, integrity

Number Maths – Place Value

Central Idea – The base 10 place value system extends infinitely in two directions.

The children have been using their prior knowledge of place value and applying what they know to a Digit Detective investigation- this was great revision and helped the children to identify helpful strategies for this concept.

Strand Maths – Measurement

Central Idea – Conversion of units and measurements allows us to make sense of the world we live in.

Year 6 have applied the comprehension strategy ‘Synthesising’ while watching various speeches this week to build on their current thinking about what makes a good speech. This week they have used what they have learned to up level their own speeches in preparation for next weeks presentations.
