Year 2 Update Wk 32

Library Book Bag
Please make sure your child has their book bag and library books on the correct day.

Daily Collection
Children are taken by their class teacher to the front steps at 2:55pm daily, to allow them to leave the building in a safe manner before 3:00pm which is when the Y4-6 classes are dismissed. Please ensure you are there for 2:55pm to pick up your child. Thank you.

This week in Year 2 the children have brainstormed lots of different types of transport. They are in the process of completing their own transport alphabet. The children have been looking at different transport systems that they may see around HK. All the classes in Year 2 have completed their own class multiplication grid, where the children could choose one of the multiplication strategies they have learnt to show their equation.

This week we have been focussing on division. We have learnt about ‘division as sharing’ and ‘division as repeated subtraction’ so far. We will continue to think about this during our short week next week. Please try and give your child opportunities for practical division at home (sharing snacks with siblings, sharing pasta into jars, sharing playing cards between family members, etc). But, please bear in mind we have not started thinking about remainders yet!

  • Spelling homework is given out weekly. Our next spelling test will be on Friday 6th May.

Reading

Children continue to bring home one book per night to read with an adult. If they do not complete the book in one night, they are able to bring this home to read the following night. Please ensure that you are leaving a comment about your child’s reading in their reading journal. In May and June your child’s class teacher will start the final assessment of your child’s reading in Year 2. Therefore the colour of their reading may change over before the end of term. We ask that you please be patient as we complete the final assessments as it can be quite time consuming.

Fruity Friday

Every week at Beacon Hill we have ‘Fruity Friday’. Children are asked to bring a piece of fruit as their healthy snack. We will let you know in advance if and when PTA will be selling fruit so that your child can bring in money then.
